103 Ferrari 458's, 23 Porsche GT3's on eBay.
Says a lot even with the stop sale with current event's and the state of performance and track day car's. On eBay it appears that the Ferrari crowd are dumping their 458's. Some for comparatively cheap as for how much 458's sell for. To be fair I did a search for the current 991 GT3 (total 10) and the second gen 997.2 GT3 (total 16) to keep the time frame's that the 458 was made, starting about 2010, and the total for the same period that the current GT3, 991 (10), and last model 997.2 GT3 (16) for a total of 26 Porsche's.
Any guess in the disparity in the number of car's for sale? Could it be that some are selling to make room for the next 488? Or is it the fact that the next V8 Ferrari comes out that the 458 will loose value since it will be relegated to second fiddle as in the pecking order for Ferrari's?
It's obvious that the buyer's of GT3s and 458s are two different creatures putting aside those folk's who own both car's. But this cannot be a simple issue of Ferrari making almost four times more 458s.
There is something more going on here than just putting the cars up for sale and not to mention for those people who bought the 458 from new have lost way more money compared to the people selling their Porsche's who more than likely are breaking even in their sales, or making a profit, in comparison to how much they paid; more so if 991!
Any thought's? Is it just Porsche makes a better car that one can live with and enjoy for much longer? Where as Ferrari is more a piece of clothing that goes out of style like those ridiculous True Religion Jeans for over $200? Who's laughing to the bank with that one?

I'd think with the 488 going turbo, and 458's of all varieties being NA, that the Italia and it's brethren would be something to hold on to for many Ferrari enthusiasts. Of course, many will want the latest & greatest regardless of the tech...T

Weren't there a lot more 458's made over 997.2's and 991's combined?
With the 991 being still "new" (used now hitting the market daily. Wait until Fall) and limited number of 997.2's is it a fair comparison?
I think the 458's could be bottoming out and who knows where they'll be 10yrs from now?? A NA classic?
Over sticker 991 GT3 used pricing will be a thing of the past come December. There are cars hitting the used market daily and sitting with unrealistic pricing.
eBay not an accurate inventory level either ..
Cars are cars. Not exactly good investments. It seems like some people have bought 991 GT3's thinking there is no downside to them. Drive one for 10K miles and get sticker for it?? Hmmm..
My observations...

Three Wheelin'
While its one of the Ferrari favorites in my garage currently it will follow all modern (and classic for that matter) Ferrari 8cyl value trends of dropping aggresively once a new model is introduced and continue downward for some time. The only exceptions will be the scuderia/speciale examples.

They made a lot of 458's. They are coming down in price. There will not be that many 488's for awhile.
The latest and greatest brings a premium and then depreciates over time.

duPont is where you want to check the Ferrari market, right now there are 136 458 Italias, 115 458 Spiders and 5 458 Speciales listed. F12 HGTE will be awesome when it drops...

The Ferrari is nearly 6 years old, built in higher numbers and a new model is coming out. For similar money give me the 458 every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
"It's obvious that the buyer's of GT3s and 458s are two different creatures"
- I don't think that at all. For me they'd both fill the same exact roles.

103 cars is hardly dumping....they were made in pretty good numbers and there will always be used ones out there, probably increasing over time....it's like that with all the models....comparing used sales of a limited car that came out less than 2 years ago and a car introduced in 2010 is not a fair comparison....and yes the 458 loses a ton of value, but it's worth every penny!
As far as the Turbo I'm still on the fence but after hearing some reviews I will likely look for a used Speciale, probably for more money, over the 488....the number one reason for me owning this car is the sound, far and above anything else.....the 488 does not sound as good....
