Let's talk deposits

McLaren 12C. Best road car I've ever driven. Power is ludicrous. More exciting (looks and drive) than Turbo S. It is absolutely an exotic on the road though, so attention may be only downside for you. Crazy amount of car for the money. Resale is a big question mark, but a lightly used is 125-150k off sticker, so major depreciation hit already done. Mediocre as a track car. No mods ever.

Trying to remember the details and this is all I can recall as we talked about many incoming cars, but it was eight-cylinder 100% confirmed, lower weight than the 918, which means hybrid is still an unknown. Lower production like a GT3, I didn't ask on timing but I believe that it's the 7th model which has been confirmed will be introduced before 2020.
I read that it may be a quad turbo...but I sure hope it's NA.

I don't think deposits matter much. I think once the allocations hit, their best customers get the cars regardless of deposits.

Cayman/Spyder 3.8L conversion, 6MT, buckets is my other daily and my fav car. Engine swap is a mild adventure, but a couple of shops have it pretty nailed.
960 if ever materializes sounds perfect, but all speculation. I'm #1 on list and dealer tells me 2017. Sounds optimistic to me.
Good luck

It sucks there is no binding process for deposits like in real estate.

I guess it depends on a dealer. I got my GT3 as promised, 2nd after Mike in CA (was 3rd, but someone dropped out after the announcement), and I had no previous relationship with the dealer. But I was actually surprised that were so good with me.

I suppose placing a deposit and having something in writing isn't completely fail safe but it's one more bullet in your gun if things get sticky. I imagine PCNA (not to mention the legal system) would frown on a dealer screwing you over with signed documents in hand.

I mean I'm thinking about it early, not just few weeks before I sell my GT3 because with the current allocation lines making calls weeks before you need a car is not a good strategy. I think you interpreted it that allocation lines make me sell GT3 earlier that I would have done otherwise. This is not the case.

The can offer the car in order of deposits, but just offer it at way over MSRP. Do dealers typically bind deposits to an MSRP sales price? The ones locally (SoCal) were unwilling to do this.
