so this begs the question, what next for the GT3 ... will it use the 991 GT3 RS engine and exceed the 500bhp limit ... or will they go the weight reduction route?

Very recent rumors indicate GT range is going turbo also with 992. So facelift coming in a year or two will be last NA GT3. Don't shoot messenger - just repeating rumor from German forum...

That rumor seems to be opposite to everything AP suggested. I'm certain they'll keep the N/A engine for the GT's. At least for the 991.2. Things may be different once hybrid technology trickles down. Everything is just a rumor now.

Are we talking drag racing or lap times? I can't see how a bump in torque would make that big of a difference. But truth be told, even the 991.1 S isn't that much slower on track than the 991 GT3.

At sea level, the extra torque is a bigger benefit on cars with less than optimal gearing. The PDK-S is very good in that respect, so the extra torque won't be that big an advantage on most tracks.
But with 430hp in S trim and ~460hp in Powerkit X51 trim, I would think the new C2S would put up quite a good fight against the 991.1 GT3. Should have manual gearbox option too. Probably going to be an momentary overboost feature too...

do the FIA homologation rules allow turbocharged powerplants in GT3 class, I thought not, hence a turbo GT3 cant be a GT3, at least not a homologation platform IMO.

I could be wrong (and probably am) but wasn't Nissan running the GT-R Nismo GT3 that was spec'd with the VR38DETT, a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, putting out 600 hp?
