Default No Michelins Available...Whats up?

I cannot find rear Michelins, 305/30/20's in either MPSS or Cup II. Tire rack on back order for both and my local Michelin dealer says that he is hearing "maybe" September. Anyone hear otherwise? I'm now trying to come up with another "track" tire, maybe Trofeo R's but hear they don't last. Any suggestions?

Just spoke with Paul, owner of Radial Tire, near Washington D.C. He is the premier performance tire dealer and friend of Porsche (and other marques) in the area. Michelin is changing plant or molds or something else - can't recall exact reason, but apparently no one knows when MPSS cups for Porsche will be available. Paul suggested Pirellis - Trofeo's, but is also looking for other alternatives.

Thanks for the feedback. Tire Rack has cup II tires but, but don't have "NO" Porsche spec tires. Still ZR rated tires though. Does anyone know if there is a specific difference in "NO" Porsche Spec tires. Is it just an "NO" emblem on the sidewall? I'm struggling to understand how much difference there would be in the same tire that works on a Ferrari, why they wouldn't work on a Porsche.

Apparently, you're not a fan of Fomula 1. Getting the tires to work and last is usually all the difference between being at the sharp end of the grid and the back.

We are trying our hardest to either get the tires in (SuperSports are the biggest culprit right now), or get some word on when they will be in. From what I understand Michelin is doing some moving around in production and that is creating the delays.

I have first hand experience with N spec and K spec on my car.

The tread pattern is the same
The sidewall design is different
The load rating is different
The K spec last longer in terms of tread, but sustained grip is .1G less and the tires heat cycle out before they wear out.

A few weeks ago I could not run the last HPDE4 session with NASA at Sebring because I saw a crack on the rear left tire (see the left side of the tire). I could only see on small section of the crack, but after the tire was removed from the rim, the crack went around almost 75% of the tire circumference. I could not find the PSC2 Porsche spec tire, so I talked to a guy from tire rack and decided to go with the PSC2 Ferrari spec tire. I'm not sure what else we are supposed to do. I sent the tire with the crack to Michelin and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'm very grateful I was able to see this crack before the session.

Same issue with the Vettes and not a peep out of Michelin. Maybe they can actually set some expectations with customers who would like OEM replacements for their tires. Doesn't help that outside of Michelin the choices are almost none.

Good info here. Thanks to Damon @ Tire Rack. I'm thinking a good strategy would be to start looking for tires, and buying some, a few months before I actually need them so I don't get caught in a bind when the time comes.

Not on every size and model! 305/30 19 Super Sport is a great example. Those are like gold right now to find anywhere.
