Default 991 GT3 or GT4 decision

Currently no.1 on wait list for 2016 GT3 and GT4. Assuming I am able to get both I am trying to decide which to get. My main criteria is a car which is really fun to drive and which feels very connected and involving. Will also use as weekend drive and around 8 track days with an occasional drive to work. I think given the power of the GT3 having PDK actually lets you get more from the car, having less power in the GT4 with a manual means more involvement but at the substitute of the sheer power of the GT3. First world problems. Appreciate folks thoughts.

Very tough choice if you have to pick one.

I would go GT3.

The GT3 will be fastest on track and fast is fun. Period. I love manual gearbox more than anyone else, but the PDK-S is phenomenal. The occasional drive to work will be great too with PDK especially if you have any traffic.

I've had a Cayman S and a Cayman R and really tried to like them. They were great, but the GT3/RS was always WAY better. I have a Cayman GT4 coming as well, but my wife really wants one so it is for her. This will be the best Cayman so far and will be fun to drive with the manual tranny. When you track the Cayman GT4 and you get passed by the GT3s, you're gonna regret it.

Just my opinion of course.

Gt3 is much faster in a straight line and on a track (ring times of 7:40 vs 7:25). Gt3 also has more of a visual presence IMO. I think the gt4 is a great car, but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to pick a gt3 over a gt4.

Gt3 will be a frustration machine on the road. How often will you get it to 9k and keep your license? Gt3 = track car. Gt4 = road and track car.

(Disclaimer - I have a gt4 on order, and don't have a gt3) 😄

I cant tell you as Ive never driven a GT4 buy I have driven the GT3 extensively. This loosing license thing in a GT3 is nonsense though as youll loose it in the GT4 before its into third gear from what Im reading. You can loose your license in a Toyota if you are an idiot! On a track I believe the GT3 will be superior and at least as much fun. That engine is to die for in the upper reaches and the PDK just bang the gears through instantly and gives you more bandwidth for lines and braking. On a tight back road the 7000-9000 rpm shifts are great but I think this is where the involvement of the GT4 6 speed will play its own part too. In terms of asthetics in my mind no contest Gt3 wins. The GT4 is a Cayman and will never be a 911 and have that "aura". In terms of daily driving the GT3 will be the better car especially in traffic and with the lift option is you have lots of speed bumps and steep drive ways to content with. however its hard to argue with the 30%+ discount of the GT4 over the GT3. Its a pretty hard question to ask as most of us have extensive road and street time in the 991 Gt3 but no one - even those with the GT4 on order like myself and others here have any seat time in the GT4 to make a valid conclusion!

Depends on the track. On a tight technical track like Hockenheim, the measured difference by Sport Auto was only half a second (and their Ring times were 10 seconds apart, rather than Porsche's claimed gap of 15).

But Grant the SportAuto HH short figures are a sand bag. I know armatures beaten that time. Didnt the recent German GTSvCGTSvGT4vGT3 article show a time difference of 3.5s over a moderate length (3 mile) track. I think it was HH long?

Do your self a favor and hop in a GT3, then make up your mind. Forget about this manual involvement non sense, if you have a Manual itch to scratch go with a GT4.
