Hi guys, is the oil filter for the Gt3 the same as for the carrera S? Turbo? no clue if they are all the same.

It is different. The filter is on the bottom of the engine rather than a paper filter that is found on top under the fans.

Money is on the money. ;) GT3 filter is a typical spin-on filter under the engine. Other 9A1 engine family oil filters are paper refills fitted in a canister located up top.

So if I understand correctly all other 911s other than the GT3 or 3RS have another oil filter?

AFAIK, yes that's correct. Not only is the GT3 filter (and presumably RS as well) a different type and configuration (spin-on versus canister refill), it's in a different location (bottom of engine versus top).

Thank you :)

$53 for a spin on is cheap?

Looks like a price gouge to me.....

SmokinGTS 06-04-2015 08:43 PM

A good price is 29.00.

FWIW, that price from Suncoast includes dual plugs for the sump, a plug for the oil tank, and crush washers. As far as extras are concerned only the crush washers are required. The net price for the filter alone is $28.46 (list is $47.43).

At the technical session in Atlanta, I asked if they recommended replacing the plugs with each change. The answer was definitely yes...cheap insurance. Since you are on average doing the change once a year, I'd agree.

Those other parts are just a few more dollars. I ordered them all separately from SonnenParts.

Very interesting, but insurance against what? Although the tank plug is aluminum the sump plugs are steel and pretty durable. If one isn't careful the receiving hole can become galled or threads can be stripped but that can happen with a new plug. I change the sealing rings every time, of course, and the plugs every 2nd or 3rd change; it depends entirely on their condition. Maybe I've been doing it wrong for 30 years or maybe Porsche makes a big profit on those plugs! ;)

He stated stripping threads. Honestly I still have the same drain plugs in my 996tt and my 964 with never an issue or leak. Like you said you can mis align a thread whether it is old or new.

right. I do change the AL plug on every 3rd or 4th change. I usually leave the steel one alone.
