Reference Guide to PTS

2 Attachment(s)

The Rennlist moderators have agreed to place this thread as a 'sticky' on this
forum because it encapsulates a lot of the information on PTS that we, as a
group, have generated in the past few years related to the 991 gt3 & the 991
gt3 RS. Hopefully, it will now help with questions for those trying to figure
out PTS for the upcoming .2 991 gt3 & beyond!

Sadly, PAG/PCNA has seen fit to categorize the approved PTS list for their
models as 'Confidential' starting in the summer of 2015. I have been trying
ever since to have this decision reversed since it's very short-sighted. It only
puts more of a work load on the 'Porsche Exclusive' representatives in Atlanta
& Los Angeles...and their dealers. The latest PTS list I have on file dates
from April of 2017 but I can't share if with you because of their admonition:

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5923904e79.png

For the past three years, I have been trying for PCNA or PAG to arrange
a simple meeting with a representative of PTS in Germany. I told them
that I would report back to the readers of Rennlist (my threads on PTS
have over 1 million views...so it's a popular topic!) exactly what they
- Porsche - would tell me about their PTS program. So give them an
opportunity to discuss the limitations of PTS at PAG, explain the decisions
for the short PTS windows...and anything else they want to say about
THEIR program!

I have made clear to them that it's better for PAG to explain their PTS
program clearly to their potential customers to avoid the frustrations
when the requested PTS option is rejected on an order. Their customers
don't really understand why that is...and it's best to explain to all how
PAG runs the program & how best to take advantage of it!

Yet, those requests for a meeting have not been approved. And so I
am giving up on the task. So I ask all of you, rather than to contact
me via PM's & emails on this topic, to please go to the head of PCNA's
'Porsche Exclusive' in the United States & see if she & her staff can
answer your questions directly:

Barbara Boeckenhoff
<PersonalDesign@porsche.us>

Interestingly, PTS is not controlled by 'Porsche Exclusive'. But they
are, by default, tasked with dealing with PTS re: their Porsche customers.
Best of luck with your custom PTS orders. You will need it!

As most of you know, PCNA made the anticipated announcement this week that PTS will be available on the MY2016 991 gt3 RS:

Below is the 5/12/2015 PTS list published by PCNA for its dealers:

Each time a Porsche model comes out (e.g. 991 vs 997), the colors must be approved all over again for the particular external materials (aluminum, steel, carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), magnesium, standard bumper plastic, etc) used on the latest vehicles. PAG, via their paint supplier, will do coverage & fade tests for each PTS color requested via 'Porsche Exclusive' & the dealer network. And each color you see on the list has been specifically requested by a Porsche customer. Rarely a color is tested without a specific request from a customer for that particular color on an actual vehicle allocation!

To see how the approved list of colors keeps growing since early in the 991 era, compare the present 2/25/2015 PTS list with the first one we published here in Rennlist on July 25th, 2012 (document was dated 6/04/2012), back when I first started tracking the subject matter on this other thread (link below). The later, which includes more than just information on PTS, has proven quite popular and has currently has over 222K views!

Z62 went from question mark to no go. Bummer.

226 was disappointing too - big fan of that color.

That is a shame. 'Aquamarine', color code Z62 in modern times, has made an incredible comeback in popularity among the 356 'Cognoscenti'. It was not a particular popular color back in its 356A days. But it has become among the most used 356A colors in modern restorations because its sheer elegance & dominating presence!

Not so fast. 'F' in this case means undergoing 'feasibility' study...not that it has failed. When a color is not approved, they hit you with a red circle bigger than a road sign!

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...111fcef2c6.png

Color Code 226 is 'Chartreuse / Lindgrün'. It has been requested to be added to the 991/981 PTS list by our own 'Green Lantern' via Brett Payne at Sonnen Porsche, a Rennlist sponsor. I am very confident that it will be approved for the 991/981...but we anxiously wait!

The color was first used by Porsche in the MY1972/1973 in the 911. Sometime it was called 'Lime Green'.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...87d4149586.png

It was last used for PTS in the .2 997:

I'll have more to say about 'Chartreuse' in future posts!

I was told by my dealer that it had to be approved on the 2/25 list to be doable on the RS. Which is unfortunate given the timing! Next car will be in it hopefully :)

Part 2 - Where do I find PTS Color Name & Color Code on my Build Sheet?

You got your highly desirable 991 gt3 RS allocation. Now you are asked to provide the dealer with the color and color code you have selected for your custom Paint-to-Sample order. You do your part. Now....how do you know your dealer has inputed the right 'color code' on you 991 gt3 RS order?

Good question. I have received several private messages on this subject. The most common report (Build Sheet/Vehicle Status) that your dealer will give you after he inputs your actual order into PCNA's computer order system does not include your actual color name or color code...although you might at first think it does! This report is usually referred to as the 'Build Sheet', which does includes the important Vehicle Status info. Here is the one I initially received on my 'Signal Green' gt3 when it was in V-215 Status:

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4d15a82e6a.png

Here is a close up:

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e9c4d5a76c.png

Color is listed as 989828. The C-NO. (?) is CO2. 'Exterior Paint to Sample' is listed in two places. First as 'Exterior Paint to Sample, Non-Metallic', option 98 and costs $5500. And 'Exterior Paint to Sample as option #24931 and cost of 0.00.

'Signal Green' is color code 22S. So what gives? Where is color or color code specified in that report? The answer is that apparently PAG/PCNA does not actually give you the color's name or the color's code on that 'Build Sheet'. 98 refers to Uni/Non-Metallic Paint. If it's a Metallic, like 'Arena Red', the number would be 99. Every PTS car has the same #24931 option, so that doesn't tell you much. And I still don't know why CO2 refers to.

Here is a similar build sheet for an 'Arena Red Metallic' gt3:

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8c3b00e053.png

And here is a Build Sheet for a 'Fashion Grey/Modegrau' (Uni-Solid) gt3:

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4a954e0553.png

At first I thought the color code for my car was contained in '989828' - 9898 for PTS Uni/Solid & 28 for the color 'Signal Green. In the case of 'Arena' (999968), then 9999 for 'PTS Metallic' and 68 for the color 'Arena Red'. For 'Fashion Grey/Modegrau' (989878) - then 9898 for PTS Uni/Solid and 78 for color 'Fashion Grey'.

Wrong. User Raysmd communicated with me via PM and figured out that the numbers 28, 68, 78 after either 9898 or 9999 simply designated interior color code. Mine was #28, which means 'Standard Interior in Black/Alcantara'. #78 is 'Leather Interior in Black/Alcantara with Stitching in Platinum'. #68 is 'Leather Interior in Black/Alcantara, Guards Red Stitching'.

Bottom line: The common 'Build Sheet' (V-Status) report you will become very familiar with does not apparently identify the exact color of the car you have ordered!

However, the ordering dealer could provide information from the Porsche order system similar to what I’ve attached for a PTS 991S in 'Pastell Orange', color code Z17. This document was supplied to me as an example of the type of report your dealer can generate which does include both the color name & color code. However I don't know when this report is first available thru the PCNA ordering system - after V200 status or only after the vehicle arrives at the dealership upon delivery. I also don't know what this report is called. But suffice for you to know that possibly your dealer can provide you with a PCNA generated report that DOES show your requested PTS color named & color code! Perhaps someone that works for a dealer can provide us at this thread with more information re: the best report that will confirm the color name and color code of a customer's order.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d127adc63f.png

Can the dealer input the wrong color code & the customer ends up with the wrong color? That has never happened..oh, wait! :banghead:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/...-and-gets.html

So caveat lector! Check and double check if your dealer ordered the right PTS color on your US$200K 991 gt3 RS! You don't need to be surprised that way at delivery!

That's the one. Best blue IMO. Would look killer on new RS and work well with the black accents.

Can't imagine why it wouldn't pass feasibility.

Veilchenblau metallic. Not on either list.

Wish I didn't like UV so much. Otherwise I'd pick Mexico Blue or Fashion Grey maybe. I guess I need another Porsche!!

Jon70 05-31-2015 10:16 PM

My understanding with PTS on the RS as it stands currently is that it has been allowed but the only approved color so far is black. Other colors on the PTS approved list are pending approval for the RS. Does anyone know when the specific PTS colors will be approved for the RS?
