I broke mine in according to the book. No smoking on start ups and mental peace. No sense in giving Porsche a reason to claim "abuse" in case of a large warranty claim, besides I do keep my cars for the long haul. Would u buy a car that has been broken in according to book or one that went "9k after 9k feet?"

I don't think you would get too many people answering that question honestly, if you know what I mean. I'm going by the book, not that it matters to anyone.

I fault no one for whichever method you choose to break your car in....but you will find no consistency in results on smoke at startup or oil consumption regardless of method you choose. I ran to 9k on track after first 500 miles and have never held back since. I never added a drop of oil in first 2k miles and very rare smoke at startup. I have a friend that followed book to the letter and he adds oil on regular basis and smokes on all start ups (lots on same day re-starts) and we both have attended many of same track weekends and drives. No consistency at all with same break in procedures or different methods for that matter.

Took care to break in properly by respect for the car. Stayed scrupulously within 4'000 Rpm for 2'500 Km. Then, gradually increasing to 5'000 Rpm and above during the following 500 Km. Reached the limiter once around 2'700 Km. I admit it was sometimes difficult not to exceed 4'000 Rpm due to the condition of the trafic and lack of concentration. Therefore, I may have briefly hit 5'000 Rpm 6-7 times by mistake. I recommend not to use the PDK Sport button as it is not possible to control the gear changes and the revs. Manual operations while breaking in is the best way.

Let me know how you plan on getting on Hockenheim? Unfortunately, it does not appear that any dates are available around when I'm supposed to take euro delivery (http://www.hockenheimring.de/en/track-day), but there must be other options.
