Default Nail in the PS2s

Got a fat *** nail on the stickier side of the rolling surface of my rear drivers side tire.

Excuse my thread venting my annoyance and wishing I had some sort of tire insurance -_-

Patch it from the inside and plug it. If done right it will never leak....

And with that type of patch/plug, I've never heard of a tire blowing on the track either.

I had no idea anyone would track a patched tire. You'd likely have to rebalance as well given the weight of the patch.

Personally, I'd have no issue with a patch for a road tire but with the high shear and heat stresses of track, I think I'd be hesitant. Plus, most legal disclaimers tend to disclaim against running a patched tire, no?

Yes on rebalancing after patching.

Patching/plugging is a no-go in the sidewall or shoulder of the tire, since stresses are indeed quite high there.

FWIW, I currently have a patch/plug in the tread of a rear tire of my 991 GT3 and have been tracking the car up to ~155 mph with the tire being relatively low on my list of concerns.
