Default Coolant Temperature

Warning went off yesterday.

I love my dealership. Jon and Scott at Rusnak are taking care of it, returning my tire pressure to stock (it was bumped up a bit more after a track day) and checking out some funny noises. Best of all, nice chance to drive a loaner Cayenne and I'm very impressed by the big car.

On reboot, it was still off, fan was on probably because it couldn't tell if it was too hot or not.

Dan (posts first warranty issue and will advise as to the outcome)

That's what we thought yesterday too and hopefully that's all it is.

I got the more urgent form of this message....don't drive. A quart or two of spring water and I was fine.

**edit - uhhh - distilled water. Sorry!

I put 600ml in last week when I noticed how low it was...wasn't quite filled. Just added 100 additional and now reads full....unbelievable my car was light 700ml of coolant from the factory.

I'm stunned, Dan. Just stunned with utter amazement.

You're able to take pics of your car while going 79 mph? Good driving!

Good luck with the service.

Heh, thanks my first effort was at 80. Note the warning light was flashing too.

At least this time I didn't have Kelly Clarkson on at the time for my embarassment and everyone's viewing pleasure.

Thermostat housing on order. Looks like it will be a few days to wait for the part and repair.

No warnings on mine but temps would rise when stuck in traffic. On second visit to address problem, the thermostat was removed, tested and found not to open properly at the requisite 81C temp. It's pictured below after being replaced. Fingers crossed that the problem's fixed.

I preemptively checked mine and it was below minimum, so I filled it back up.

I had this after parking the car up for 5 hours in the cold after a day at the track. Good news is thermostat in thus mode stays open and the actual issue is the engine runs very cold as the fans cool the front radiators full time.byou can't damage the engine this way. If you allow the car to sit in traffic it will get hotter to the point where the circuit would normally open. After driving an hour home with this message on and the fans running I got stuck in some traffic and after 15 mins crawling the temp got to the critical point and the system reset itself. We saw the fault on the dealers PWSIS tester later that day and cleared it. In 3 weeks and 1000 hard miles of driving since including a few early morning fast drives the issue has not re appeared. It may be a sensor fault?

What peak temp did you see? I was stuck in Houston I-10 traffic for the first time for about 40min and temp went to indicated 220F. No warnings, but I was getting concerned. Ambient was low 80sF and 100% humidity (light rain). Once clear of traffic temps dropped back to 180-190F.

Just a point to note that the Over heating issue is quite different than the issue raised by the OP. The overheat issue is caused by the thermostat shut closed and can be detrimental to the health of the engine. I've had this one too and it's a thermostat replacement under warranty. The other issue is the thermostat open before the target temp has been reached...

Unreal I got the same note and said stop driving I was like what the f#%*, and it went out. Sent the dealer a text at 2230, and he called the head MTC guy before I drove 50 miles in the morning. Yes he said add distilled water, and it does appear low based on the reading. Hell how did they miss filling the tank.

I keep spare oil in the car, and now I guess a few bottles of water hell who needs a fire extingusher. The other two are more important

Just a thought here : I wonder if the factory didn't fill the coolant system or they don't have time do do a proper bleeding procedure. My guess it's the latter and as the owner drives the car,the air slowly purges out of the cooling system and the coolant level drops tripping the emergency light.
