The portion the-missle made mention of:

Q: Why have air intakes in the rear wings? No other RS does…

AP: We wanted to fool people looking at spy shots, I was so amused… they were saying, “oh no, it is a turbo!” We are not using this for intercoolers, we are using this for the intake, so we develop new ducts that go directly above the wheel, through the body in white, and into a race air filter, and we have cleaner air at the side of the car.

[It] was just a solution to get more power and being able to use the super-wide Turbo body – because otherwise we would have made new sides without the hole, which would have been mega expensive tooling. So we’ve made this situation a positive.

Normally we have the intake at the back of the car, so the air has to go over the roof, and when it leaves the roof it tends to get dirty, as we say, there are some swirls in it, the stream is not as linear as it is on the side of the cars. We have a better ram-air effect on the sides.

The side effect is the car has a specific sound, the intake goes partially through the body in white, which is adjacent to the interior of the car, so you hear the induction quite a lot more than you do on a GT3, especially when you have the windows down. I like that, it adds to the specialness of the driving sensation.
Thank you.

About the air intakes on the GT3 R….do you think they are possibly blocking them out in these photos and that they will be on the rear quarters after all?

The reason I say this is because there doesn't appear to be a substantial air intake on the decklid either. Or are those two slots supposed to be up to the task?

Here's a '12 RSR:

Isn't GT series horsepower restricted by regulation? It may be that the HP bump provided by the side intakes isn't needed for the new 4 liter DFI motor in race tune because it already achieves the maximum allowed output without them. If true, there would be aero advantages to eliminating the drag inducing side scoops....

I understand where the car stands in relation to the RSR, and that is is based on the GT3RS.

But where does it fit in relation to the GT3 Cup car?

Honest question!

This new 991R seems very special.......and considering the 2014 997R was $450K, this is a relatively good deal......

This is where GT3 racing is going, $500k+ car costs but with no allowance for modifications.........cost of the car is the big nut but not having to develop the car beyond it's stock components helps manage the costs of running the car.

2016 will be special for GT3 cars with new models coming out for Porsche, Audi, Lambo, MB and BMW!!

Massive step up: Aero, Suspension, Brakes, Tire/Wheel pkg all get significant upgrades. In past it also ran an upgraded trans; assume the same here but haven't seen it confirmed. ABS and paddles keep running costs down and make it easier for gentleman racer to approach the limits.

And the sound is pure sickness....

The demand for this car will be high......PMNA requiring certain commitments to purchase a car such as a full year in PWC or Tudor.

We are looking at 2-3 for our Customer Racing Program for next year......let's hope the Euro drops some more!

Lovely thought but the EURO has been going the other way the last couple of weeks. The time to buy was when it hit $1,02 USD now at $1.13 and claiming... :-(
