Default What are the signs that MPSC2 are near the end?

My MPSC2 are almost down to the wear bars, and I'm wondering if they can get through 6 hours at Watkins Glen.

What are signs that the tires are done are almost done?

Does the rubber change to a compound unsuitable for the track when getting into the wear bars? If not, how far into the wear bars can we go before they cord?

I would replace.

Cheap insurance relative to what could happen at speed or hard braking on a hot track.

I haven't gotten to far past wear bars but based on your current condition now you might try it for 6hrs of hot laps. I find you hit a wall at some point past wear bars and it ruined my last weekend I tested it out but I had much more than 6 hrs on track.

I went beyond what Joe posted, pretty much to disappearance of tread. The problem with that is that there is indeed super-hard compound near the cord (way past bars), and the tires lose all the grip, but still look good enough to get you home in dry weather. Kind of nice safety feature.

But if your tires are not wearing perfectly even, you can cord them before tread disappers. Post pics.

Also, 6 hours of track time? Some would kill new tires in that time (e.g., BenSF )

Not sure if anyone is having any better luck, but as of this past week, I have had two shops call Michelin and others (besides the usual - Tirerack) - they weren't able to source any rear MPSC2s. One is a large dealer in LA - he said Michelin wouldn't have rears until September.....

Anyone having any better luck?

BTW - Not much luck finding other tires - managed to get two sets of Pirelli Trofeo Rs. I think there might be Dunlops, but not going there.

FWIW - I got 600 track miles on the MPSC2s - pretty awesome!

If someone knows a source for MPSC2s, I would greatly appreciate it!

^ this

I am replacing after 5 track events. The fronts lost "All" grip. Car was no drivable. No tread left but not corded either. Fronts just completely gave up. Rears not done yet but close. Decided to replace all four. Trying Pzero R cause cannot get full set of mpsc2 due to back order. Suppose to be a fast tire.

Tire pics below. Wear is fairly even across the width, about the same Left vs Right (have flipped them once), and Front vs Rear. The tires definitely have 'some' life still in them, and I would be great if I can get one more event out of them, though I know 6 hours is kind of a lot (and Watkins Glen is about 4.5 hours drive each way for me, and won't be trailering). Not sure what to do after this event, with the potentially long delay to get new N0 spec tires - Porsche better be screaming at Michelin!

Agreed. With that wear, I'd probably get 2 more full days and still have enough tread to drive home.
