Default Go FY16 Gen 1 or wait for Gen 2?

Just got a call and email from my dealer that I can take an allocation for a July production MY16 Gen 1. I had put myself on a list back in the Fall for a Gen 2. Take the Gen 1 slot or wait? I'm curious of the opinions here.

Are you able to take the MY2016 and keep your spot for a 1.2GT3? If so, this is definitely what you should do, for multiple reasons. First, we know nothing about the what and when of a Gen 2. Second, you can always trade in your 2016 if and when the Gen 2 comes out and if you like it more. If you aren't able to do this, I would still take the 2016 and then simply get on a Gen 2 list with a different dealer.

Hmm, good advice. I don't normally think of buying cars in this way. This will be my first new Porsche after having purchased a bunch of used ones (street and factory race cars) over the years.

For me the risk is when will PAG stop producing NA cars. I would have to think that at some point in time that will happen. At this stage everyone seems to think there will be a.2 but nobody really knows.

I would grab the current allocation and when the .2 shows up then trade to the new one.

I convinced myself that was the plan and then ran into a euro delivery wall.

Drive what's here today. Enjoy the present, not what might be.

I personally give it a very low chance of their being a NA 991.2 GT3. GT2 RS already announced/confirmed and I would bet this will be homologation with WEC/FIA regs requiring FI.

We need to stop all the worring about the end of NA gt cars? I'm being told we might not even see a .2 GT3....they are focusing a lot of development right now on GT2 and GT2 RS. Doesn't mean we won't see one but no talk right now of .2 GT3 in motorsports dept that I have heard other than outsider assumptions.

You could be absolutely right. The recent Auto und Sport article indicated Poresche is behind Ferrari, BMW,etc, with respect to FI engines. It indicated Porsche needs to catch up soon or will be at a serious competitive disadvantage in WEC/FIA. ADIOS NA engines.

Hope not!

If I was a betting man I say the next gen GT3 will remain NA. But the gen after is a different story.

^^^ Totally agree. If we keep waiting for the next one, you may lose out on what's great today.

I get lost on this topic the 2014, 2015, and 2016 are the same car. Now we're talking about a car that has no been developed? I drive the crap out of my car every chance I get, and care less about what's new. Enjoy your cars boys .........a bird in the hand is better than a bird in the bush.
