I don't know about the pictures, but there's no doubt some of the internal parts are different. I mean, it's a different displacement, no doubt has different cam timing, tuning etc. and multiple parts with different numbers. From a marketing standpoint it's useful to use the words "all new" but it's very clear the two engines are of similar design and layout and that the RS engine is an extension of the one in the GT3, not a sea change. The differences between the 9A1 in the GT3 and the Mezger are much greater than the ones between the GT3 and the new RS.

Word was that the engine in the GT3 would be the basis for the new Motorsport engine. Apparently, that's proven to be true.

The balance of the 991 GT3 on a two post lift is better than my old 997.2 GT3.

Porsche fail. on engine, they say 3.1s sprint from 0 - 60 mile. while in chassis , it say 3.3s 0 - 60 mile.

..and C&D got it in 3.0 flat. Different days, conditions, elevations etc.
