GT3 or GT4?

Another way to look at it. Why are you interested in your 1st Porsche? Mid engine or Rear engine? What made you first think of Porsche? 911 or Cayman? What's the first thing you think of when you hear Porsche? 911 or Cayman?
I'd bet all answers point to 911. So for your 1st Porsche you would be wise to go with a 911, otherwise you will always want one since it's the first thing you thought of but then opted for something else
P.S. I'm not bashing the Cayman. I want to get one but am going to wait for them to fix the gearing so it's a better backroads car. Based off the reviews so far, the gearing seems too tall for the shifting pleasure I'm looking for.

I have owned 2 Cayman 981's (both manual and PDK) and 2 Carrera 991's (both manual and PDK) before finally getting into my 991 GT3. To me the balance of the Cayman's are nicer then their standard 991 equivalent's, but the 991 GT3 with its RWS/Chassis/Engine/Sound at 9k, I mean it's in a whole other league...WOW just f'ing WOW!!! If money is no object get the GT3. MT vs PDK, I would choose PDK, as I can not heel/toe, etc, I can extract so much more form the car with a PDK, and PDK-S, even better.

Then I drove a Cayman GTS and loved it. Would prefer more power, but the driving experience and the quality was impressive. I have watched ALMS/Tudor series for years and while I was there as a Vette owner, I always enjoyed seeing and hearing the wail of the 911 flat 6 at full chat!
Then I tried to buy several GT3'S as supply was dwindling earlier this year but was not successful. Now enter the GT4, and both cars have massive allure. You are correct if I am honest thoigh, there is something about the GT3 that is special.. the sound certainly is epic!!

Certainly a valid argument, especially after hearing GT3'S blast around track with a center bypass!

When/if the GT3 is offered in a Manual I will certainly go that route.
Do not get me wrong; the PDK-S is phenomenal- but I would give up a few tenths for a third pedal/ but I would never trade this engine for a 3rd pedal

Same dilemma here. Jonesing to get back into a new Porsche, want a really special engine, but want it attached to a manual transmission. Prefer mid-engined balance, but the ideal 911 would be an exception. And I also think the GT4 looks better than the GT3.
So what do I do? Spend time on Rennlist, patiently waiting until Porsche makes what I want.

I can heel toe, but I agree with what you said... PDK is better than I could ever be. How much of a step up is a GT3 from a C2S or GTS? I am wondering how much I can gather in my GT3 vs. GT4 dilemma via driving a 911 GTS and a cayman GTS?
GT3 vs. C2S, C4S, GTS, etc is NO COMPARISON
The GT3 on paper has 45 more hp then a X51 powerkit car, go drive them both, they feel worlds apart IMO.

I have a 981 3.8L PDK Track car - only stock thing left on the car is the PDK transmission which has been reflashed. I also have a 991 GT3 street car - it's stock as it's just a short-term vehicle until the RS arrives.
Both are great cars, I actually didn't like the 981 Cayman S at all - the suspension is really holding that thing back in stock form and the engine lacks power. The 3.8L track car is a very different animal given the weaknesses left with Porsche in the 981 setup. I'm sure the GT4 will get closer to what my modified Cayman is in terms of setup and chassis dynamics.
It's unfair to compare these 2 vehicles as one is not street legal and 100% setup how I wanted and the other is a factory spec street car, but I prefer the Cayman over the GT3. I suspect this to flip when the RS arrives as my main complaint with the GT3 is lack of rare downforce and squirming under rear braking.

Well, the car starts at $84,600 with the tall gearing. How much do you think an RS or a next generation GT4 will cost with lower gearing (if they even fix the gearing and still offer manual by then)? No free lunch either way. And they cannot void the entire warranty based on a gearing change - they can only disclaim a failure that was directly caused by the gearing change. But it is a fair concern (I would probably wait before making such a change).
