Sounds like a nice Caterham.

Loved the article. Agree 100%. Finally, the boat is turning in the direction it should have taken 5yrs ago.
Invest in more lightness and suspension tech -- **** HP. And, yes, manual!

Why not also make the whole 911 line smaller in the next generations, while you're at it? I mean, if the 911 gets any bigger, just add a fourth door and call it a Panamera. The market in Singers and older, smaller, lighter Porsches couldn't be sending a stronger message.

AP, just dooo it!

That's what I'd like too. All they need to do is make a Coupe version of a shortened Panamera and voila, new 928.

That would satisfy the need for a large Coupe and the 911 could return to 993 size (or 997 at worst).

Instead, they're making the 911 into a rear-engined 928 and making the Cayman into the sports car.

With its research and production resources, Porsche could make a 2500lbs Singer-sized 911 with a modern suspension and engine, ask $150k for it and easily make ton of profits. It would sell like hot-cakes, no matter how they decide to call it. Oh, and I could care less about its NR lap-time.

Lighter maybe, but I doubt smaller. Wider tracks have their advantages, and Porsche has made the longer wheelbase an overall advantage by combining it with RWS, PTV+, etc. On the road, the 991 GT3 sometimes feels a bit 'big' to me, but never lacking agility and nimbleness. On the track, it doesn't feel big to me at all - just feels 'right'.

I don't think the 991 has any more headroom than a 1965 911. Not sure about legroom (I have short legs and long torso - and I have more headroom in my 1973 with Recaros than a 2015 with stock seats)

The leg room is better than 996.3... My only other 911 experience...head height you may be right...the foot well is roomier. It was tight for my long legs, size 15 and heel toe in the 996. If the 991 was manual, I would have an easier time playing the pedals than in my 996...wider foot box. I lucked out with this generation....the LWB's fit me like a glove and the posture/lumbar is just right for my bad disk L4-L5.

Looking forward to those seats in my GT4. The GT2 folding buckets didn't lower enough for me, so glad to have electric height control on the new ones...

Longer wheelbase
means engine moved forward

this why ours 991 GT3 do so well

You and I, both

I'm only 6'4", but share the same issues -- mainly leg room.

Well, the 991 has about a whole head more head-room than a 1980 911 w/sunroof. I can't stand to sit in those things, even without a helmet.
