Default Air compressor to fill tires at track - will Viair 85P blow fuse in 991gt3?

Wanting to upgrade to something reasonably powerful and very portable, for use in filling tires after track events. Viair 85P looks good but has anyone blown a fuse using it? Or are there better ones to recommend? thx

I was set on the Viair too until I came across this Husky compressor from Home Depot. the main advantage for me is that it works with both 12 and 120 volts. The digital meter is pretty accurate as well. Not sure if it will last long, however.

I did not use mine after a track day sat but it should be fine. Just keep car running when using. I use it with my 997.1 gt3.
Keep getting prompts of pressure warning 28f 29r on way home on freeway 90 min commute.
Ran 30F 32R track circuit mode as my target pressure. Reset after session and bleed down. Quirky as others have mentioned.

Key with these 12v compressors is turn them on before you connect them to the tire. That allows motor to start under no load. Plug in, then on, hook to tire, turn off, disconnect, repeat.

Perhaps a little off topic...

For trackside, I've found my compressor to be a last resort. Using a big compressor at home I fill a 10 gallon portable air tank (aka air pig) to 150 PSI and then use that to refill tires during day or at the end. It's way faster and there's less messing around.

Just a VIAble alternative...

Better to have a buddy bring his air tank and mooch off him but have the Portable one just in case.

^+1 For a single track day and correcting tire temps this is all that is needed.

I've just been using the compressor that comes with the car to top off air after track days. Takes a while but works fine... hopefully it isn't meant for emergencies only!

Thanks, all; very helpful. Tank and big compressor at home sound like they are the way to go.

Any recommendations on a reliable, fairly lightweight tank that will fit in a gt3? I am petite so weight is an issue. Also welcoming suggestions for a decent compressor.

Measure the frunk and go on line to find one that fits. You won't need much: tank with a pressure gauge, quick disconnect connectors for hose, short hose, and air chuck end, and air pressure tire gauge. Look at race suppliers like "Jegs" and "Summit Racing." Just enter portable air tank on their search bar.

On compressor. If you buy one for home use get one that is more than just for filling your air tank. You will find it useful when blowing off water after washing the car, running power tools, etc.

Check the GT3 Tools and Gear thread, I have one that is pretty small and I fill up with nitrogen. I haven't had to refill it yet after a couple autocrosses and track days. If you have access to a compressor at home to refill it then it may be easier to just use air.

Used one of

these

for 4 yrs now without issue. Only thing I did was replace the vinyl hose with a longer rubber one right of the bat.

You might even get lucky and are able to use

25% off coupon

at the same time
