Indeed. The car is my DD and I have a 100 mile daily commute to work, so the road miles add up quickly. Two AX'es don't cause a whole of wear, but two track days certainly did. And yes, I get them quite warm. I'm not the world's faster driver, but I am a PCA/DE and POC/PDS instructor and I know my way around a track reasonably well.

How do you like them so far? Can you notice any difference in the handling or feel of the steering on the street compared to the oem tires?

the current gen cup 2 tire is brilliant... my experience using it on my e92 m3, 991 gt3 and c7 corvette z06 (in zp form) has been just terrific... and very good durability too for the kind of tire it is, as proven out by the german review

On the street I can't tell much of a difference from the Dunlops. However, I don't push the car that hard on the street. In the rain the MPSS is a better choice. Driving to and from the track and not having a guarantee on the weather I don't mind using the MPSS.

I'm having a hard time taking the article posted in the OP seriously. I mean, really, the reviewer reports that the Cup2's overheat on the third lap and the Dunlops overheat on the fifth lap? And we're talking one minute laps on a track in Germany in April?

This guy doesn't know much about warmup laps and starting out with tire pressures low enough so that the hot pressures are optimal. He obviously started out with tire pressures way too high!

That aside, I agree with those that say that the Cup2's are great track tires, the Dunlops are probably good too but wear faster, and that the Super Sports are great dual purpose road/track tires.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the reviewer notes, after his five lap run, that, "the Dunlop exhibited noticeable noticeable torn up in the center of the tire...". Geez, we all know that Tire Pressure Basics 101 says that wear in the center means that the tire is bulging because the pressure is way too high.

Yep. Ran used Trofeo R today on my GT3 at National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. F'ing fast I may say and they have 3 track weekends on them plus about 1500 street miles. Not sure what a good time at this track is, but my 2:20.6 seem decent for my first time here. The tires feel like Hoosiers.

My car has oem dunlops but I want to wear out the Trofeos before I try the dunlops on the track.

chris harris has a recent pirelli sponsored video concluding that trofeos will produce matierially lower lap times than cup2's or dunlops - i might be wrong but i think he used a 991 gt3 for the test ... i would tend to believe him in that claim, despite the pirelli sponsorship of that video. from that video and info also shared on the mclaren forums it seems reasonably safe to conclude that the trofeos are made with an even stickier compound (obviously bearing the various tradeoffs that that may entail). but they do seem to run faster times when they are fresh and in good condition, all else equal

I was reading this thread and looking to buy a new set of tires, but found both the dunlops and michelins out of stock for the rear on tirerack. Anywhere else for me to look?

Contact your dealer. They sometimes have allocation of tires even when they are "out of stock".

Everything I've read suggests the MPSC2 are very good on the track, with great durability for a track oriented tire. Similarly the Trofeo Rs appear to be stickier than than the MSPC2s, but at the cost of half of the durability of the MPSC2.
I'm willing to give up one second per lap and save $2000 every few track days, by sticking with the MPSC2s.

I finally get to try mine on the track this weekend. Thought this winter would never end.

Bear in mind when reading this test that MPSC2 and MPSS treadwear ratings are 180 and 300 respectively verses 80 for the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race. For reference, Pirelli Trofeo R treadwear rating is 60. I'd argue the MPSC2's are putting down some pretty healthy times given their treadwear rating.
