Another point to keep in mind, is 600 RSs for the US is greater than either of the two previous allocations for RSs to the US. I believe both were around the 500 mark and roughly 2000 for total WW. I know that the argument of making more money is the logical one, but there is a 991.2 coming out which will require a production line change which could explain the December cutoff for builds. If they want to make more money on RSs they can do a 991.2 and continue this saga.

I think the numbers were higher than that. There was a thread that showed the total US RS deliveries for each generation. Some were surprisingly high.

Also remember, the last GT3 RS was out 4-5 years ago. Demand for 911's has increased. More people can afford GT RS's now, despite the higher base price. There are more Porsche loyalists. And, thanks to the 918 Spyder VIP program, there are more non-die hard Porsche loyalists buying GT3 RS's due to an "easy" allocation being offered to them.

All this means the sales numbers from 5 years ago are not good guidelines for PAG to use now.

According to the registry, 600 for the US would exceed both previous runs. BTW, they could have sold more of the previous RSs too. That is the reason they were getting premiums for them. You don't get over $50K over list just to get a car a couple months earlier. I guess we will all know come December!

Even if their financial situation was stellar, I doubt they'd turn away easy money. How is turning away "easy money" good business?

Forget finances - massive fights between the Chairman and CEO, they need to make their numbers sing.

It's going to be ugly - maybe Porsche will be spun off like Ferrari? One can only hope.

By ~60 cars, or something.

That means PAG is leaving a ton of money on the table, even if they intended to maintain some level of exclusivity... They could still keep it exclusive, without having to turn away so many loyalists and customers.

For example, demand is higher for the 991.1 GT3 RS, despite the higher price, than the 997.2 GT3 RS because:

* More people can afford to spend $200k on a car now.
* More enthusiasts have gotten older, and the RS is more well known now.
* 918 Spyder VIP program brought more non-regular Porsche buyers into the game (as a lot of wealthy hypercar collectors bought one).
* PDK, instead of Manual, made this car more accessible to more people (and not just those that don't drive stick, but also those who'd have gotten the more expensive DCT only cars, such as a 458).

Default Production

I guess this settles the discussion about the production numbers:

“Unfortunately, even as a new factory driver for 2015, I won’t be given a GT3 RS as a company car,” sighs Bamber. The RS is not limited, but until the production window closes in Spring 2016, a maximum of two thousand units will find their way to happy new owners.
