I have not heard any news re. a GT2 being in the pipeline, but given how fast and successful the 918 Spyder has turned out to be, I am quite worried that Porsche could decide to sacrifice weight and steering feel and make the GT2 AWD.

Wide, low, fast, with a nice engine note. That is all.

I just can't see that happening. Simply because the GT2 is named after the class that the original GT2 was homologated for back in the 993 GT2 and GT2 Evo days. I know that it's nolonger a homologation special and hasn't been since the 993 days, but if they were going to go awd, I'd have thought they'd have done it with the 997.2 GT2RS as the benefits of awd were clearly written on the wall with the Turbo S by then. I think they want to stay as close to possible to the spirit of the original 993 GT2's which was more power, huge contact patch, lightweight body panels and optimum handling via suspension wizards in Weisach. That all being said, they could determine that the platform has been maximized in the form of the GT3RS and adding wider tires, lightening the body and giving it more power wont improve the car's performance much. If that's the case, and they have hit the point of diminishing returns, then, and only then, will they begin to explore the extrapulation of more performance through awd. If that's the case, I just hope they call it the Turbo RS and not GT2RS, because to me, GT2RS will ALWAYS be a rear wheel drive car. Let me say this, I'm ok with a Turbo RS, infact I'd embrace it

Just a reminder, Andreas Preuninger did go on record to say they're seriously considering a 991.2 GT2 / GT2 RS for the end of the 991 generation (probably MY2018 or 2019).

Hi guys, new to the forum, have been on many forums before but this is my first Porsche forum.

Been wondering if there is any new info or news about the idea of the 991.2 GT2/GT2RS?
Also where can I find where Andreas Preuninger confirmed the the new GT2.

Thanks and glad to be on the forum .

Old article now and AP isn't a decision maker, but here it is:

Hybrid 911 has since been confirmed by AP's boss and the head of R&D ar Porsche. Considering the venue and people talking about it, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a street version of the GT3 R Hybrid.
