A halo car is not a halo car unless supply is limited.

The 991RS speaks to a broad aduience and will sell in great numbers! Just have to look at the comfortable interior and amazing reviews from first testing! It is without a doubt the best multi purpose car one can buy at the moment. The low number production edition will arrive. I actually don't care if it's MT or not. Feels like the PDK fits well with the 991!

Agreed. In fact, the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 was not a halo car at launch. I had plenty of opportunities to buy upwards of 5 of them, brand new, unclaimed, at MSRP. Yes, times were different back then, but not too dramatically different (in terms of the US economy) when compared against 2007/2008.
Some may consider the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 a halo car today purely because of its pure nature, and the absurd prices they go for these days.
The CGT, 918, these are halo cars. Rarity doesn't make a halo car (a lot more CGT's were made than 918's). Halo cars are marketed as halo cars. It's nothing more than public perception generated by marketing.
The Lexus LFA is a halo car. I can still get brand new, untitled, LFA's at below MSRP today (and it was a model year 2012 car).
LaFerrari is a halo car. The Enzo is a halo car. The 599 GTO, no. 458 Speciale? No. They're close, but they aren't halo cars by the general definition of what a halo car represents.
Is the Lamborghini Aventador LP-750-4 SuperVeloce a halo car? Very close. But no. The Lamborghini Veneno is a halo car. The Lamborghini Reventon, a halo car.
First round was ~710 allocs. (Includes the ones 918 VIP's raised their hands for.)
I'm just hoping that by the time I finally secure an alloc (I'm confident I eventually will), the PTS window is still open. As much as I love Lava Orange, I don't want to be rolling around in my LO GT3 RS pulling up next to a base C2 in Lava Orange.
(Really disappointed that PAG made Lava Orange a standard upcharge optional paint.)

I think it's not just the numbers that create Halo cars. Will the Boxster Spyder be one? When they produced maybe 1500+ 1973 911 RS's
I'm sure some didn't realize it's future investment potential.
I consider my black 4.0 and green '07 RS both as future Halo cars.
My purple '16 RS might be? Will the next RS only have a Turbo?
Remember these:
'98 last air cooled 911
'11 last stick RS (maybe)
'16 last normally aspirated RS (maybe)
We will see.
I'm sure some didn't realize it's future investment potential.

The market decides what is a halo car. Manufacturers try to make them halo by limiting numbers, giving them special features, etc., but at the end of the day the market decides what is and what is not.
