Question Anyone Mounted A Front License Plate?

I know shutter at the thought

For those of you in states that don't require--you're lucky.

In Texas they do and they are getting very nasty about it lately (at least in Austin area)

I was pulled over 3 times in my R8 within 6 weeks. Cops around here (and in the suburb cities) use it as an excuse to pull you over. I got a ticket 2 of three times (one APD and other Cedar Park PD)--went to court and told them front holder was coming from Germany, blah, blah and got out of it. Third time was just warning.

The car already begs to be pulled over, so that is just a perfect excuse.

The thought of putting one on this car is blasphemy--but has ANYONE done it?

Not yet but on my other cars I use the US Mill works tow hook bracket. About $70 bucks I think. It looks a bit funny being off to the side but avoids the risk of getting stopped for no plate.

Here in the province of Ontario we have to have front plates put on. Maybe some of the boys around here can post a few pics on what it looks like with the front bumper mounted plate. A few buddies of mine get pulled over quite a bit with some of their exotics and get ticketed. No fun around here.

The only place I have been ticketed for no front plate was in the Short North in Columbus, OH. Look up ***** in the dictionary and you'll see a photo of a Columbus meter maid.

Yes; tow hook is the answer. You could try running naked and if you get puled over, pull it out of the trunk & put it on.

And some police still love to hand out a ticket b/c they've seen that trick before. Sometimes you just can't win.

That made me laugh.

As to the plate holder, I've seen the hook job, and think it looks terrible (off to the right and misplaced). I need to check to see if Porsche even makes a plate holder for GT3. What I've done before on other cars is run bolt through the front vents, which mitigates the drilling and you can flush mount it in that space (I think). Then get black plates and it's not the end of the world.

But yes, pain the *** for sure.

That approach might look better than the off-center tow hook mount, but it could make your center radiator less effective too.

I sent them a message through their site a week ago but haven’t heard back. No contact number or phone number on the site. I have the US Millworks tow hook mount right now but the off-center look is bugging me (and I’ve already got 3 tickets for running plateless so I want to try a vinyl sticker).

See this other thread too:

And this idea if you're dead set against drilling holes:

There are a bunch of posts and instructions out there about how to use rare earth magnets to attach a front plate. e.g. below

Interesting idea. I wonder how well the plate stays attached at high speed, though? I'd be nervous it'd go flying off, so I'd probably only use it when parked.

Interesting--ordered some magnets (just in case) from Amazon...will need to think through bracket.
