'15 GT3 or '12 458 italia

I had a 2011 gt3 , 430 6 speed and 430 scuderia. If for weekend fun car i highly recommend Ferrari. Its more exciting, special and has a sense of occasion ,but restrictive in usage due the attention it draws. Both cars are great , very different purposes. Cant go wrong either way. I am excited for my incoming gt3. I would listen to the advice given on 458 values , imo wrong time to buy one. They are dropping fast.
I test drove mp4 , great car awesome sound and high rev for turbo car but compared to Italia and scud it felt clinical.

I own a 12C spider. Have tracked it. Very very fast. It has its faults too though - biggest issue is electronic nannies. Shoot me a PM or let me know what questions you have. My plan is to likely sell the 12C when the RS comes out (pending final stats, engine displacement, etc).

The 458 market is flooded.
You will be able to find it cheaper in springtime.
Drive both, then spend some quality time in a 997.2
Them decide which is most fun.

you really need to drive both but make sure you add into the mix a 430 scud. IMO the scud is a far more exciting car to drive than the 485. The 991 GT3 is a totally different animal then the f cars but equally as exciting and a better performing car. I currently have a scud that i just got a month ago after a ton of research and am getting my 2015 gt3 at the end of january.
the only car I wish i could have but can't afford is the 458 speciale!
Also agree with the fact that 458 is going to make a pretty big drop in price over the next year!
good luck!

i drove my 458 italia from vienna to monte carlo three days ago in one sweep and it performed beautifully through rain and some snow (winter tires). every tunnel put a smile on my face (dropping two gears senselessly::)). yesterday in monte carlo i did the vanity loop (the F1 track loop and the obligatory stop at the casino). had about 1000 pics taken.......the 458 is a wonderful car, even practical, and it makes you feel like a movie star. today i am off to the route napoleon and tomorrow i have a meeting with the local ferrari dealer who will take me around in the dealership's la ferrari.
I LOVE FERRARI...please sergio M., keep the brand values up!!!!
that said, the 911 GT3 is a great car.

If it's just for Sunday drives and you want a rush go for the 458. I just sold mine and I do miss it a bit. It is a way more "special" car than the GT3 (please, I'm not putting down the GT3). The noise, steering, and responsiveness will blow you away. You have to own a ferrari at some point in your life. Don't expect to drive it to work or track it a bunch, but you can if you want. It will turn way more heads than the GT3 which is just another 911 to most people. Be prepared to not be overwhelmed by ferrari dealers. In my experience, Porsche takes care of me much better and in a more timely fashion than ferrari ever did. Both great cars, you pick. Go drive both and forget what we say. Drive them!
Everyone should experience a Ferrari at some point, but for me the GT3 is a refreshing change and a car that is current, will hold values way more than the Italias which right now has a very flooded market. The GT3 is a easier car to drive more on a daily basis if needed. The GT3 is not as exotic as a 458 Italia but it costs considerably less. Ferraris are great but I grew tired of them (F430 and 458 italia). The attention those cars received was annoying, as was the service, depreciation, and inability to drive the cars as often as I wanted to.
I have no regrets on my GT3 purchase, I love the car. For mid 150's price range, you simply can't beat the GT3.

Owning both I will say if that given the choice of the 2 there is no doubt what keys I'm grabbing.....the 458....I love the GT3 but there is still nothing like the sound of the V8.....

Three Wheelin'
I had a 997.2 C2S in ideal spec (6spd MT, PSE, alcantara sports wheel, short throw shifter, wheel spacers etc. ) and loved it. Tried the 458 and although it was much faster it didn't have the feel or challenge of the C2S.
Now I have the 991 GT3 and it's much more akin to the 458 than the old one was. Still love it though.

IMO a C2S is a great car (I have owned several) but, is not close to either car.

I think all dual current or previous owners who have chimed in hit the nail on the head. The F car is something to own and it will clearly amaze you in performance and style. The 2012 and newer gets free maintenance for 7 years as well.
I have both currently and I lean to driving my GT3 more often. The F car is faster and sounds even better with the catless Capristo but I feel more comfortable with the GT3 doing normal daily things. The GT3 and the Ferrari, for me, are both keepers but if it was a financial thing and I needed a more practical car then I would go the GT3 route. I currently also have an RS7, C63 Black Series, and a V10 R8, so the both would remain but if I could only have 2 cars, its the GT3 and the RS7.
I guess its time to drive the 458 more this week; I have been driving the GT3 the most.

The former, its got the 4 seats plus the large trunk. And with a tune and some sway bars plus KW sleeves; the car drives incredible for 4400 lbs plus AWD. While I have not tracked it, similar modded cars (GIAC) have pulled 130 traps and higher 10.xx quarters. The tq steer can be annoying but the recent upgrade in sway bars has changed the dynamics of this car.
