Default Sport chrono / clock retrofit

I decided the sports chrono package was not worth the $1800 but I do like the look of the chrono on the dash. Am I right in thinking this is not a clock though?
Whether it is or is not is there any way a clock can be retrofitted into the dash? I'm after a clock rather than chrono and I realize there's one on the inst cluster, this is more for aesthetics. I've searched and found a YouTube video from EleBest Singapore replacing the dash piece with a mounted clock but the website seems to be solely for BMW and Mercedes? Sun coast seem to have clock faces only not the clock? Can it be done? Any leads? Txs.

Someone on the 997 list installed a factory pod and put a PLX gauge in the pod. You can find the factory part for the 991 on eBay and someone makes an adapter for the harness.

The sport chrono shows a digital clock in the centre (when it is in normal non chrono use) and the needle indicates a sweeping seconds hand.

Build is actually locked and still happy I did not get the package. I will say on the day it locked it was so very tempting to make a last minute change and add this and that and one more of those! Took a lot of self-restraint!! I've got a little over three months to wait and so playing around with these sort of items keeps me sane!! Can't wait!!

There are both digital and analog clocks inset in the chrono dial, along with the sweep second hand. The clock automatically resets to 12:00 and turns off after a few minutes to save battery power. As soon as a door is opened, it advances to the correct time. The time is obviously kept by the on board computer.

As for retrofit, in addition to getting the right parts, the chrono would have to be wired and integrated with the car to work properly. I imagine it would be a rather expensive proposition.

Love the look of that clock but fear you're right in that this could ba an expensive retro-fit. But worth researching as I've got three months to kill!! Txs for the info.

Depends on what you call expensive.... All up it cost me approx. USD 1,200 to do the retrofit which included buying all the parts and harness and having it installed and programmed up by the dealer.

Paying $1200 for a $400 option is expensive in my book. It's all relative, of course....

I agree if it's +$800 like you just mentioned. But the OP said it was $1,800 in his option list. So if retrofit is a savings of $600, I'd say it's well worth the savings to do it afterwards if the car has already been locked and you still want to add it or bought on the used car market. Mike, I know you have a '14, did the Sport Chrono option really go up to $1,800 for '15?! that's a HUGE difference!

Scott, for 2015 Porsche added the Precision Track App software to the package and upped the price by $1200. Comparing a $1200 retrofit of just the clock (which cost $400 in 2014) to the 2015 $1800 Chrono option is a bit misleading.

Hey, if the OP really wants it he should get it.

Ah ok, that makes sense. That's why I was asking, I figured you would know as you seem to be a pretty good wealth of info regarding the 991 GT3. That price delta seemed quite large!

Thank you guys for all the info. I didn't realize you could get the clock / chrono on its own with the 2014 model.
As I said I have no burning need for the clock just that I like the look of it. I'm not going to spend $1,000 on a retrofit - not in the super league I'm afraid!! I'll look around and ask the dealer his thoughts. Again appreciate the font of knowledge and for passing it on. Cheers,

Was that the 2014 version? Suncoast is selling the 2015 parts for 1215 alone: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...T3INTERIORELEC

I think that Suncoast is selling the Track Precision App for $1215. It doesn't include the Chrono which probably isn't required to use the app.
