2015 GT3 RS

Burning Brakes
My guess would be 2 Models at Geneva, a normally aspirated 500 HP GT3RS with a small performance
increase over our GT3s (7:20 Ring Time) priced under $200K for the purists among us, and a Turbo Charged 650 HP GT2RS with a much larger performance improvement (7:10 Ring Time) to compete with
McLaren, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Ferrari, MB, Lexus, Nissan, Etc. priced at $275K. MHO worth about $.01.
Can't wait for Geneva!.

Speaking of GT2 btw. I found it very interesting when I synced my wifi to the Porsche precision track app, the prequel to the password is "GTx" and then you enter your vin number. Now why would they have the "x" after "GT" if this track app was only for a GT3??? Or maybe it's also for the upcoming "GT4" Huuuu, say it isn't so! Hmmmm, food for thought.

Here's a 3.5 year old article about Porsche putting flywheel-based KERS in road cars.
Maybe they are finally bring it to market to debut in the new RS.

If the past is prologue to the future, you are correct - but, IMHO the incremental advances you cite will not give the new GT3RS the performance increase needed to counter the present unprecedented increasing number of competitors with higher HP ranging from above and uncomfortably below the 3RS's likely MSRP.
TRACK LAP TIME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN 997 GT3 AND GT3RS MODELS
<www.fastestlaps.com>
Hockenheim: 0.9 Seconds 1:10.4 vs 1:09.5
Autozeitung: 0.8 Seconds 1:35.8 vs 1:35.0
Tsukuba: 0.33 Seconds 1:04.84 vs 1:04.51
Sachsenring: 1.36 Seconds 1:36.11 vs 1:34.75
Magny Cours: 0.24 Seconds (0.42) 1:22.2 vs 1:21.78
Will a 1 Second decrease in Lap Times at typical average length tracks justify the
much higher price of the GT3RS?

if the rs can only beat the gt3 by that much it will be pointless.
especially if a z06 at half the price of the rs can beat its time. rs will be laughed at, and rightfully so.
not as bad for the gt3 as it still has some creature comforts, and is more of a road car, but the rs? at 200K??

Moreover, as everyone has stated, we're talking about relatively short tracks. Unfortunately, this is what represents a majority of US tracks. Plus our. No one really knows what the lap time differences will be between the 991 GT3 and its RS brother. Everything stated is still all speculation with how a possible 5 sec difference on a long course (the 'Ring) might translate to tracks of many different configurations and lengths.
And the Z06...a definite comparison since it is a bit of the every man's baseline because of its bang for the buck methodology. But let us not forget that GM threw a s/c on this beast to drastically up the hp. This is not the road map Porsche has taken (based on the majority of posters saying n/a). If price is going to be brought into the discussion, Porsche will ALWAYS cost 2x more than a Chevy. The marketplace has firmly set the prices with supply/demand economics. Porsche doesn't care. GM doesn't care. And most consumers of each product don't seem to care either because each car still seems to sell quite well.
In the end, there's always going to be the argument of price vs performance. That's why there's a market segment for everyone, and an aftermarket world to help fill the performance shortfall holes. For every $76k+ Z06, there's a $30k aftermarket developed Miata or BRZ/FRS that can bring just as much enjoyment. Remember, just as you say there isn't a good enough reason to spend $50k more on an RS, there's a person saying the same thing from GTR, Z06, Z/28, etc perspectives.

Just to add some fuel...my mechanic buddy said they have a very well connected 918 customer who just successfully completed an order for a GT3 with 6 speed. Only cost them $100,000 extra but there is hope!

In regards to the Z06, it always has been a contender and always will be.
But until you drive each of them for a day it is hard to compare them on paper.

if the car is 200 plus grand is still has 3.8 and is only 5 sec faster on the Ring then what the hell is the point?
