So then the involvement and challenge of a manual transmission are not entertainment? Perhaps entertaiment isn't a sufficiently serious word to describe driving a sports car as an avocation?

In my experience, differences in cars become much more apparent when comparing them by driving them back to back. Has anyone done that with the 991 GT3 versus a manual 911?

Always was against the paddles, but now I could care less. As said previously, if it makes you faster around the track, then why not. All the cups use it....

Entertainment is passive, much like driving with floppy paddles.

Very true. So give us the option of going slower but smiling when we hit a perfect heel toe. Some of us don't care about lap times but for just having fun. Road or track.

There's a video of Senna on YouTube where he is driving an NSX at Suzuka I believe, his footwork is beautiful. At points he breaks and throttles with the same foot almost simultaneously. His socks and shoes, a different matter.

I am a manual die-hard and have always sworn-off automatics/paddles. The transmission in the GT3 is phenomenal. It has given me a new found belief that the future is huge for these modern day automatics. I incredibly enjoy the PDK-S. I think it is the right fit for a fast/high revving NA engine.

But - if there was a manual option I might have gone that route. Although I do not think Porsche makes the "best" manual transmission today. I think Audi has taken this slot.

But - would not surrender my Gt3

Trust me, If there was a manual, Id be the first to get it. Nothing matches the feeling of nailing a perfect heel to toe.

My point was, they aren't offering a manual. We are stuck. I used to be the guy saying, "ill never get a 991 GT3. Last GT3 i'll ever own is a 997.2" But now, my stance has wained. The engine is badass, the car handles like a dream. So if we have to deal with paddles, then so be it....

I appreciate your viewpoint. I hope to see more folks come back with thoughts about the PDK-S once the honeymoon subsides.

No one is stuck. Any one of us could go get a 6- or 7GT3 with MT. If you see the advantages of a 1GT3 as outweighing giving up MT, then so be it, but no one is stuck. The new M3 (or, er, M4) is no longer NA, but dull turbocharged. Some like it quite fine as the power increase is very noticeable. But others don't like it one bit, so they are going and buying the former NA iterations (e46/e92). We all have complete freedom here. If you have the money for a 1GT3, you have the money for a 6- or 7-.

I meant we are stuck with PDK on the new model. Of course anyone can revert back to a 996 or 997/997.2.

But my point was, if you want the latest and greatest, with the new motor, wider front track, and RWS, then you are "stuck" with PDK

Gotcha. PDK-S is very good and I'm excited for my 1GT3, but I have to admit, had MT been offered, I'd have stayed manual. And I did think heavily about going 7GT3 instead.
