In defense of flappy paddles-need we do this anymore

It's odd that my current GT3 is the Porsche that I am having the most fun driving and it just happens to have 'flappy paddles'.

The French have a saying that sums it up: "Chacun a son gout", to each his own taste. I am very impressed w/ my GT3 but not the paddles. The tactile experience is stiff and the throw is no different than a standard paddle. I think the mechanism is simply a lightly reworked 991 PDK sport wheel.

[QUOTE=sportscentury;11879824]What M3 iteration do you have? e92 or f80? Curious as to why you didn't go 6MT.
It is the E92 with ZCP pack. It is a 2011. Great all round car. Daily driver. Great v8 engine. Should have got the manual, the DCT was the thing to do not realizing rowing through the gears adds to the experience. Also owned 997 s at the same time and loved the car. I could drive back to back and preferred the 997.
Ordered a GT3 to replace 997 s.

I think you have to approach the car as a whole and not dissect out any one element. My wife had a Toyota Corolla with a MT and that didn't make it a sports car. The GT3 does a lot of things really well and the entertainment factors include more than the paddles (fortunately).

I'm waiting for this. I think we have seen a couple of cars up for sale as a result, but it's too early to be sure just yet. The honeymoon ended on my m and I wouldn't do it again.....or so I say. This is the reason I sidelined in the 991 GT3, I just couldn't make up my mind on whether or not Id really enjoy it.

At the risk of stating the obvious, a car can only do so much to entertain you on public roads. If you need a third pedal to be happy, stick to what works for you.

If there's no traffic, different story, but the only way I get that is 6am Sunday morning drives during winter and I'm using this winter to work on left foot braking...

I have so much love for the e92 -- the last real M3 imo. MT was the way to go for sure but I understand the allure of DCT, especially if one does a lot of driving in heavy traffic.

It's not about asking a car to entertain you, it's about the involvement and challenge that a manual provides over a paddlebox. Also, if puttering around town is your primary motive, then you probably bought the wrong car.

I have driven with a manual and slush boxes for over 40 years and have no real need to row my own gears. I can do it without thinking and heal toe was never an issue, but I find the DC a new experience as you can have it many ways. I especially like being able to upshift coming out of a turn with no interruption in power or upsetting the weighting.
