Default Does the GT3 have an AGM battery?

Page 208 of the Owner's Manual indicates that the OEM battery is an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) type and must be replaced with an AGM battery for full functionality. The Banner battery in my frunk says nothing about AGM though.

If it is AGM, should I be using the snowflake/ AGM setting on the CTEK charger?

I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

I read the same. If so then yes snowflake setting on your charger. As a point to note the battery must be very heavy duty as the it held charge on mine after a 7 week trip on the ocean! Hate to know the cost of the replacement!

I also do believe that the cold weather / AGM battery setting on the CTEK charger won't hurt a non-AGM battery (it is used for cold weather on normal batteries, anyway). So, better safe than sorry.

But yeah, as far as I'm aware they've shipped with AGM batteries for a while (unless you got a super ultra expensive lightweight lithium ion one).

Mine is AGM for sure. I got a super-smart charger/maintainer that detects it, and it was never wrong so far. Regarding the battery holding charge - I think Porsche finally improved their electric management when the car is shut off. GT3 once was of maintainer for over a month and showed 90%+ charge while Cayenne goes to ~50% in 3-4 weeks, despite its gigantic battery.

I received confirmation from Banner in Austria, that the GT3 does have an AGM type battery. They asked that we please use the setting with the snowflake (14.7V) for recharging.

Interestingly, the Porsche branded charger does not offer this charge mode. I use a CTEK 3300 instead.

Thanks for that info! I also have the CTEK 3300 and 7002 chargers. Another good reason not to spend more money for a Porsche branded CTEK charger with a logo but fewer features....

Pretty sure the entire 991 variant has AGM batteries. The battery in my '14 C2S was replaced under warranty this summer. It would not hold a proper charge and kept throwing a ton of different warnings up on the MFD gauge. Dealership said replacement would exceed $600 if out of warranty.

600$ for a battery?! I'm sure that's what they've charged Porsche for replacing yours!

That seems excessive unless it includes a modest markup over list, plus taxes, supplies and they are charging an hour of labor. Either way, the price is high.

Here is the real price:
Part Number 99961107010
Part Name BATTERY
MSRP $316.76
Core $0.00
Online Price $185.30

Change it yourself and save 400?

With battery replacement consider Oddesey Battries. I have used various batteries over the decades in all of my cars. I used to like Optima but had some issues with them the last few years. I have finally found that Oddesey Batteries are the best. they are built to military spec and designed to be fully discharged and recharged over and over - something most batteries do not like and ultimately leads to failure. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and performance level. When you have a bunch of cars they all just don't get out enough especially the race cars that sit over the winter between race seasons. So usually it is the battery that is an issue. However I have not had these problems with the Oddesey battery. They really hold a charge for a long time and if they get way down come back easily and repeatedly.

I agree on odyssey. I have their agm cell in my 993 and it's been brilliant! I'm on my second unit. First one lasted 4 years but was abused a lot as car was in and out of shops slot during that time....

Default AGM Battery In The GT3

I know that this is an old post but the picture of the battery shown above does not appear to be an AGM battery. I have a GT4 and have been asking the same question to determine if it came with a AGM battery. Based on seeing the vent tube I assume it is a regular lead battery. The part # is 999.611.070.12 Banner 12V 70 Ah 760 A. Anyone able to confirm? Thanks

Thanks for the tip. Need a battery in the Honda Element and my Optima yellow top finally is giving up after 4 years of hard use. They look like a nice product. I need cranking amps for MN winters and usually buy as many amps as I can get for the given size of battery that fits. These Oddessey's don't show any cranking amps? Did I miss it? Thanks..

Banner confirmed that part# 999.611.070.10 (the 2014 GT3 battery) is an AGM battery. Further, I can tell you that part# 999.611.070.12 replaced part# 999.611.070.10, so I would conclude both are AGM batteries. If you have any doubt, I would recommend writing Banner customer care for confirmation. Be sure to reference Porsche battery 999.611.070.12 Banner 12V 70 Ah 760 A.
