Default OT: The "other, other, GT car": Corvette Z06 test drive reports

Media got a hold of this baby today... they don't mince words.

in the world of armchair racercers (I am one at the moment as i don't own of these)... this is how I would rank the current GT cars available to the market today in order of desirability.

1. GT3
2. Corvette Z06

3. Cayman GT4
4. Shelby GT350
5. Camaro Z28.

there is a gap between the vette and cayman in my mind.. because they reall are in a different league, despite being similar in price (although, the Cayman will come in $20k over the Vette).

question is, which car actually is "slow" enough to be pleasurable to drive on the road? I've driven plenty of base corvettes, but never at a track. i find that the low seating and wide front expanse makes it a bit unweildy on the road and in mountain twisties... it also doesn't feel like it's really trying. The cayman gt4 on the other hand, while having vastly less power, offers a small size which makes it fun and placeable on the road, and engaging at sane speeds. The camaro is a terrible car on the road in my opinion.. just huge and unweildy. The mustang is also quite large... but maybe the new body style will feel different... have tracked an older body style Boss 302 and I could see how it could be fun... still not my favorite.

if I had to pick today... it would be the gt4 with a manual. It's on order and if the garage gods are willing and the neighbor moves out.. I think this will be the one which occupies the space. But that vette with a manual is intriguing.

Skidpad 1.19 Gs, .07 better than the GT3.
Braking 70-0 128 feet, 7 better than the GT3.

Certainly makes the numbers, expect a quick 'Ring time.

I would put the M2 in the distant #3 slot. It's Turbo, but I think it'll be an absolute blast at a very reasonable price.

EDIT: Corrected M3 typo

Impressive numbers - unimpressive looks (to my eyes)

M3? Or M2?

M3's getting panned- 9th place out of 10 at EVO's car of the year. M2 likely won't be durable enough for track work- street car class at best.

Anybody know what kind of lap time the GT3 gets around Atlanta?

You can feel that, during a given corner, the balance is constantly shifting. It varies along with the diff, and in the vaguest of ways, you can sense it happening. It’s never quite the same every lap. And it’s this changing balance that adds discomfort to the driving experience. You lose that unflappable confidence you had when pedaling at 90 percent.
If they don't fix this, it's not for me.

Anyone want to guess a 'Ring time? ZR1 was 7:19, and this seems to have it covered in performance in every area, especially grip. 7:07 anyone, faster than the Nismo?

It will be there with the Nismo for sure!
What I'm most curious is if the RS will keep up...

Not unless it has turbos.
