So, wouldn't that mean that the GT three will already have been presented, and test driven, and January 12 is when the magazines can print their test drive results?

Press embargo breaks around the time of an auto show; sometimes it's a bit before, sometimes right before. Porsche themselves, various magazines, blogs, hangers-on, etc. will provide you with the spec sheet, CGI pics of the car on an alpine pass, etc.
Usually sometime after that the car will be driven by journalists as guests of the manufacturer; for Porsche sports cars that's usually in Europe. However, the 911 GTS was just launched in California.
Some journalists will get a scoop on their peers like Chris Harris did with the 991 GT3 in summer of 2013, it just depends on circumstances.
Given the time of year I highly doubt Porsche will be doing any press drives of the RS over the next 2 months or so.
Finally, info always seems to leak very credibly just a few days before the embargo ends.

Quite honestly if this car breaks cover 12 Jan do not expect any magazine reviews till March. Most international publications have produced their Jan issues by Xmas. Unless thjere is a scoop like EVO trying a pre production model around the Ring in early Dec I suspect it unlikely. The weather couldnt be any worse than Jan in Europe...
