Is the GT3 overkill for most buyers???

+1 Of course it's overkill. That's part of the appeal for me!

Do "most buyers" have any hope of being able to drive a GT3 to it's full potential? Of course not. "Most buyers" probably don't have much hope of being able to drive almost any performance car to it's full potential.
So yeah, in that sense the GT3 is overkill for "most buyers", which is not the same as saying that if someone has an appreciation for what the car is and a desire to get the most out of it that THEY can, that they shouldn't buy one.

Without intending to be sexist this is like saying that a supermodel is to much woman for 99% of men. However, I think 100% of men would agree that we all want one even if we only use 10% of her potential. Just having her and being with her and looking at her most of the time would be great.

If I had a supermodel for a girlfriend I would use her to her full potential. And then some.
To mix analogies, I'd void the warranty from overuse.

We all love our Porsche's and every minute in one of them is a treat.
This GT 3 is my 11th Porsche and it is the most amazing car I have ever driven. I know I am not using anywhere near its capability on the street, but it is a trip.

Depends on your definition of overkill - if getting point A to point B is the definition of need - then yeah, anything north of a Vespa is probably overkill.
My view on these cars can be traced back to a quote from Michael Dell:
"don't ever be the smartest person in the room. If you find you are the smartest, find another room"
I have owned quite a few cars where I am a better driver than the car, the GT3 doesn't fall into that category. I can learn from this car.

Yes, everything I do from the moment I wake until I go to sleep is "overkill" (honestly + lawfully, that is), otherwise I, and perhaps others on this forum, wouldn't be in the fortunate position of owning such a vehicle.

Frankly most cars these days are extremely competent and are not driven to their potential and for the most part their owners are not capable of taking them there... so what. What makes life meaningful is what you do with it each day. It is not about whether you got to the end of the day rather it is HOW you got there. The GT3 is a drivers car, it is a participatory experience. You don't get in, turn-up the stereo and glide to work. There is less sound deadening than a "normal " 991" and the suspension is firmer, PDK actin is sportier, etc. The GT3 is meant to deliver an experience, not to fall into the background and be a conveyence for the stereo. You dont have to go 100mph to get what the GT3 is, though listening to the engine rev through the gears is intoxicationg. The accelleration and handling from 0 to 70 through some twisty bits will be satisfying - you probalby will think you are at some limits - though the car is capable of a lot more. Is the GT3 a daily, "street" driver? Sure if you want to DRIVE to work - you will have the time of your life. If you are looking for a mode of transportation that gets you from point A to B with as little a bother and as much insulation to the trip as possible then maybe the GT3 is not the right choice...

Just my $0.02, but from what I've observed most car buyers are unable to use the full potential of a 4-cyl Camry.
With regard to the GT3, very few buyers will be able to get to the limits without doing something that sends them off into the weeds or dirt. Even fewer will be able to turn truly fast lap times.
All that said, I think it misses the point. Most buyers of the GT3 will be able to drive it competently at say 8/10 and have a hell of a lot more fun than they would driving the Camry at 8/10, 9/10 or 10/10.
