Good day again,
Any issue with using the aluminum plug for the oil tank drain (as standard on nearly every other oil sump drain) vs. the copper one of the same size when sealing the plug?
I didn't have the copper one shipped at first, and installed the usual aluminum crush washer that comes with most drain kits for the engine oil sumps. Any major difference, and what is the rationale for the difference at least in this particular drain plug, while the other plug for the smaller drain screw has an aluminum smaller diameter washer?

Did not get shipped the oil tank washer (brass apparently andending in -20), and all drain plugs sent are the same size as the usual oil sump plug on most models.
To be sure, the oil tank washer and oil sump washer are not interchangeable? And is the drain plug also not interchangeable? I can't find a current proper PET set of documents to compare, and would prefer real experience.

BTW, thanks for the great DIY, even though I've read it for years now.

Hi azzurri,

My apologies for not picking up on your questions sooner.

On my 2014, at least, the two drain plugs for the sump and the one for the oil tank are not interchangeable; the one for the oil tank is larger in diameter. For that reason, the washers aren't interchangeable either. When I ordered the original oil change parts kit the washer for the oil tank plug wasn't included. After contacting Suncoast about this issue, they sent me the oil tank washer separately. The washer for the tank plug is copper and the ones for the sump plugs are aluminum. I don't know the rationale for the difference in materials but knowing Porsche, they must have one.

BTW, to the best of my knowledge the green rubber O-ring serves no purpose. It was shown on the PET for the 2014 as being associated with the threaded post where the oil filter mounts but as my original factory filter didn't use an O-ring and I've never seen a screw on filter that employs an O-ring in that location, I didn't use it either and have experienced no problems with leaks.

Gents,

We just finished this full video of the oil change process for the GT3 991.2. Here's the link:

Enjoy!

Nicely done! You should consider posting this in it's own thread as folks may be unable to find it easily hidden deep in a thread on how to change the oil in a 991.1 GT3. Just a thought.

Nice job, Joe! Can you post a pic of the manual showing 17 ft-lbs for the oil tank plug (if you have it), please? I have some confusion about that and was told 22 ft-lbs (30 Nm) by dealer technician with workshop manual. Also, was newly installed washer also copper like the one originally on the car?

Thanks!
