Default Best Winter Tyres for use with standard wheels

My long wait is finaly comming to an end, Jet Black GT3 due for completion this month. In the UK most of the cars are delivered with Sport Cup 2's, what is the best option for a change of rubber, to something more suited to a wet cold UK winter? We get more wet than snow or ice, temp typically 1-5 Celcius, but does vary between +10 and -5.

It looks like Porsche recommend slightly narrower wheels (going from 9JX20 Front, 12J x 20 rear to 8.5J x 20 Front, 11J x 20 rear) with a slighjtly narrower rear tyre 295/30/20 as apposed to 305/30/20.

Keep the standard wheels and go w/ Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s...unbelievable in the snow / wet weather. A few threads on this. I have on my RS4 and several people on here have loved them on the standard wheels on the GT3. It looks ugly w/ anything other than the standard wheels. Don't let them convince you to put the Turbo wheels.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere in the GTS thread-gone-bad, but will the GTS 20" CL wheels be compatible with the GT3? If they were cheaper to buy than the GT3 wheels (ie. similar to turbo wheel price), could they make for a reasonable set of winters? I read they are the same as the turbo wheels, just matte black. At least being black they wouldn't stick out visually as badly. BTW, can the offset problem be fixed so they fit better?

I think this car with the winter turbo wheels looks fantastic.

it's a matter of personal preference i guess. i would never personally put those on my car. i think they look heinous. but, your car, your decision.

looks like Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s are the ones, thanks for the recommendation. Just to double check I assume 295 30 20 rears will fit on the standars wheel, what about the fronts?
Looking in the UK the non N rated XL version of this tyre is about half the price of the N rated one, I assume they will be almost identical.

The Alpins are not wide enough to fit on the GT3 rear wheels, as far as I can tell.

The Porsche spec package includes the TTS wheels with the Alpins for the GT3.

The GTS wheels might in fact be correctly sized for the Alpins, but cost a great deal more than the TTS wheels, and are not readily available (if at all) at this time.

I installed last January the Michelin PA4 on the GT3 using the original wheels that came with the car. No issues with fitting these tires on GT3 rear wheels. Mark

^Interesting. Specs for the tire would indicated otherwise.

Indeed strange, but It was actually the Porsche dealer who recommended and installed these tires and after clearing it with PCNA. Mark
