Slow down - we are talking a Turbo charged 8 cylinder with 7000 rpm red line. No thanks. All the reasons why I bought the 991 GT3.

Again - 7000 rpm redline. - turbo charged.

I am enjoying 9000 rpm redline and normally aspirated.

A newcomer cannot hope to compete with this. MB is in a good position and can compete on all points except, interestingly, 4 as it will never have 4 seats and be good looking and fast without being rear engined. The problem with the design is actually the 921's saviour!
I don't think MB can compete with No. 6 (Heritage) -- at least if we're talking about 911 (as opposed to just Porsche versus Mercedes).

There are few, if any, car models that are so historically ingrained in the minds of car enthusiasts and the general public.

Thanks for clarifying... While I agree that a BS will likely not equal a GT3/RS, it doesn't need to equal to be a competitor for dollars... There are still lots of GT3/RS owners who do not track their cars, and may spend on the BS instead... Although for both cars, being such low volume, they'll still sell out, and I'd guess the BS will be a $250k car as well...

never been a fan of amg having been disappointed after driving several black series cars and sls. too american feel with lots torque, but numb steering, and slow transmissions. dont like exhaust sound either as more corvette than f1. not so sure this gt will improve on any of that. maybe this would compare with 991 turbo or gts models but never gt3

however, i did just drive an amg that i was impressed with. the gla45 was opposite of all that. sounds good, fast steering, even faster transmission. really nice but little too small for my needs. priced ok at $60k with good options. can only hope new gts will follow same path

Yea, I started a thread about this in the 991 forum. I'm not a fan of it personally but respect others that can see value in it, etc...

I have read the starting base price is $150,000 and the weight will be closer to 3600lbs. No way any Mercedes comes in at 3300lbs. Even their 3600lbs estimate may be a bit optimistic.

Indeed. The F82 M4 is actually the lightest since the E36 M3 from ~15 years ago.

Yeah. ~3300 vs. ~3400 lbs. If I recall correctly.

I thought they were "targeting" the e46 M3 weight, but actually fell short and wound up closer to 3500-3600 lbs.

Hmm, you're right. I remembered incorrectly (kind of):

BMW M4 Coupe features DIN curb weight of 1,497 kilograms (3300 pounds), around 80 kilograms (176 pounds) lighter than a comparably equipped predecessor model.
BMW M4 Coupe US Curb Weight - 3530 lbs (manual) / 3585 lbs (DCT) (incl. full fluids, all standard equipment for US and all options expected to be equipped on more than one-thirds of M4 sold)

Yeah--I think the U.S. cars wind up weighing a bit more than the EU counterparts in real world spec.

Jim!

I've been loving the car. Unfortunately, my absence has been more than just racking up miles--the flu bug has been sweeping through the household. Wife and kids literally keep getting sick over and over. About 4 weeks of taking turns and I've been the only one left standing throughout...which also means that I've had my hands full and I'm not talking about a thick leather steering wheel and perfectly responsive paddle shifters...
