I saw a snippet on TV today about the Chevy Z28 which appears to be a dedicated track car. Really equipped well. NO AC, just a radio. Real plain
on inside, some LS or LZ motor 505 hp, full front lip spoiler and added lip on rear spoiler. Looks almost like a NASCAR. $75K take it or leave it. One thing I found interesting is the rubber is 305 on the back, 305's on the front! OUCH!!!
Only option is adding the AC back with more speakers for the radio.
But if you want a plain track car this looks like a good option for the money.

If you're a hardcore track user this car(although butt ugly),or the Z06(decent looking) are very good contenders. The RS is getting way too expensive...

The ZO6 is serious. Superior performance at half the price. But, for the same reason I pick a GT3 over a GTR I'd skip on the Vette.

It's funny, but I think the Z/28 would actually be more popular in Europe than here in the US, assuming GM decides to export it.

2 weekends ago I was at a track event at Barber in Birmingham. I was coaching an advanced green student ready for solo in a mod'd Cayman S. The bother to the Z/28 was there in the same run group...the ZL1 Camero. What an impressive car! Barber is a smaller technical track and this ZL1 version was running away from everyone. The ZL1 is only $56K....a new Cayman S is $70+K and much much slower.....hummm...Oh the Chevy has warranty is tracked the Porsche doesn't....hummm

I'm as surprised as the next guy by the car and suspect that hard core GT3 drivers will be hard pressed to walk away from the Z/28 (after a drive) without a good measure of respect.
A caveat: I've not yet had it on track and will offer a more rounded opinion (that of a mere mortal) after doing so. Randy Pobst recently stated "There's kind of not a bad corner for this car. I've never felt a car grip up so much half way through Turn 9." Having spent time with Randy on track I'm not inclined to discount his comments much.
IMHO the final paragraph of the 1st Place announcement in the Motor Trend 2014 Driver's Car article pretty much sums up the Z/28. As with most things YMMV.

With 325 width front tires you would have to expect some grip!! Has there even been a car with such monstrous fronts? What is downside to that kind of anterior width?

It's a square setup: 305's all round. Not sure but think it's the first production car with fronts that wide. Two downsides are tire cost & tramlining on certain surfaces. The upside is of course grip.
