Nice article. Thx Brake_dust.

Is it true that in PDK-S mode the tranny is limited to 6 gears?

Umm the Turbo S has 560 hp and 553 torque and the standard PDK and you guys are worried about your measly 475 hp and 325 tq. and welcome to the PDK-S. !! You own a race car. Go try to break it before your warranty wears out.

I wanna walk into a bar and yell at the top of my lungs " Launch Control on the house!"

Don't be afraid of your cars boys. Go drive them!

Seems like I should know the answer to that. Kamal, did you read somewhere that was the case? Because of the aggressive mapping in PDK sport mode I bet you'd need some pretty serious speed to see 7th gear but since top speed is achieved in 7th I don't think it would be locked out. If you've got a good place on HWY 49 maybe you should test the theory.

Negative silver, now I'm not sure about when cruising but at full pelt it's not limited to 6 gears. If you are referring to placing the transmission in Auto with the Sport button depressed, here is a vid that illustrates 7th gear is achieved while in auto and sport mode is active:

Note: it mentions sport to the left of the speed indication and the transmission is left in "D"

I'm not sure if this was mentioned before, but could the car be revved out to 9K while in the "paddle natural" feature is active I.e pulling both paddles?

So DME (over-rev) reports on these cars will be meaningless, I assume? Both a car driven under 8k rpms at all times and one with 1000 launch controls would show zero over-revs, correct?

Mike, I will after its broken in and with the Sharkwerk exhaust installed and will share the video. It's a straight shot with hardly any cars around most of the time. One of the sales guys who is truly a car fan told me about the 6 gears limit but this video that was just posted proves him wrong I guess unless if I am missing something.

Anybody know if that video was stock 991 GT3?
I must be missing something but I thought the speedo got to 334 kph (207 mph). Is top speed really that much more than Porsche published specs?

The youtube comments indicate that the addition of an exhaust gave them the extra speed...

here's another one from them:

Speedometers are notoriously unreliable at high speed. GPS measured speedos are commonly used for top speed tests. I wouldn't dwell on the thought that the GT3 is topping over 200 mph, it probably wasn't.

LOL! 121 db exhaust, oh yeah, I want a cop pulling over my butt for putting on something that loud. Not.

Dan (knows adding exhaust modifications to a NA engine doesn't give much HP increase)

Kamal, I was thinking about this after I shut off my computer last night. With regular PDK in my 997.2S 7th gear WAS locked out in sport plus mode and that fact was referenced in the manual. You couldn't even select 7th manually when the sport plus button was pushed. Of course because of the taller gearing with PDK top speed can't be achieved in 7th either.

I suspect your sales guy might be confusing this feature of PDK with PDK-S, where 7th is required for top speed. There's no mention of a 7th gear lockout in the GT3 manual. Obviously 7th gear can be engaged in auto mode per Zulu Alpha's video and I bet it can be selected in manual/ PDK sport mode too. Shouldn't need super high speed to try that out.....

Correct.

With the standard PDK ala Carrera & the S model 7th gear is unavailable when Sport Plus is selected and the trans is in manual mode.
