CXX Options don't pass "feasibility study"
That's right, rec'd word today that Porsche has decided that while I could have done deviated color black on the mirror and wing, it didn't pass the feasibility study and is not possible.
For those of you who don't read or speak "Porsche German" a dialect unique to Stuttgart here is the translation:
Porsche German: Your CXX option did not pass the feasibility study and is not possible"
English Translation: We enjoyed jerking your chain for sometime and leading you to believe that you and your exclusive options specialists could have a lovely little tea party deciding how to decorate your GT3 while you were selecting other fashion accessories like colored key fobs and wheels. Unfortunately, it is now time for real men to get down to business and build as many effing GT3's in the next three months as we can. We don't have time for you to accessorize our machines with worthless options especially those that require us to use different paint colors like you use to paint your nails. You are lucky we are letting you choose any options at all, if you persist we will deny your entire order and sell your car to one of the 10,000 new Chinese Alibaba millionaires that just called us today begging for one.

Sorry to hear that. I would never thought to have had this done at the factory, rather I entrust this type of work to my paint shop. We have taken the mirror apart and its a very straight forward job. Around $200 per side for the paint+prep. Vinyl wrap is also a reversible option. The wind should be very straight forward.

I think it's pretty clear that Porsche wants done with the GT3. The feasibility excuse is just that, totally bogus. Given the cost they charge for doing these tidbits, you may find in retrospect that Porsche did you a favor. It just stings to make the effort only to be given the brush.

The email said that "my build is about to lock and they do not have enough time to hold it open to determine final feasibility." Sounds like December / January could well be the end of 991 GT3 production.

Can you recommend anyone in particular?

Thanks for the update. Par for the course as PTS has been rejected. I'm leaning now towards black wheels on mine but prefer satin instead of gloss. I'll be surprised if it can be done.

Thanks! I get a chuckle rereading it. You just know that this isn't far off from how the management really feels.
Last Friday in Stuttgart:
"Jorgen! Manfred just called me from China, he has received 300 deposits today for the GT3 at 250,000 euros each! Why the hell are we f&@ing around in the USA with these girly men that want to dress our machines up like dolls and we sell the cars for 100,000 euros? Cancel all the PTS orders and CXX options, tell everyone that the only color we are doing is white, if they don't like it cancel the order. Tell the factory to build as many f@$&ing cars as we have parts for and ship them all to china. Make sure that they don't buy any more parts too! I better not see any parts left hanging around either or somebody is getting sent to Poland to build SUVs!"- Andreas Preuniger

So easy and cheap to wrap the parts aftermarket. Don't let that Porsche letter to throw you off.. Just feel lucky we get this car for so incredibly cheap and then have fun with the vinyl guy adding and removing all the colors you like on a whim

^ As said earlier I'll take it as Porsche is doing me a favor, the CXX options were just a consolation prize that I didn't get PTS. I don't think I'll modify the car with vinyl, the only interest was in a factory custom option.

They may do that but charge you multiples of what buying them over the counter costs. If you just want a shield or one on some other car, but from parts and be done with it saving the originals. BTW I am still waiting to hear on my CXX request for the wood MF wheel. As my car gets built in 10 days I am sure it is a no.

It's also a fluid situation, since what's possible also depends on current open projects, spare materials availability, and your ability to grab someone's attention.

Disappointing that on a high dollar, special car like this they wouldn't be more than happy to get you what you want. It's not as if it's free.

Don't worry, you aren't alone!
We have done countless renderings for clients for approved CXX options, just for Porsche to turn around and say "NO!," leaving us all to go back to the drawing board and change the spec.
Often times though, the solution is to just look towards the aftermarket. Definitely a pain, especially when you spend so much time dreaming about the delivery and going back and forth lobbying for the options you want. But in the end, I guess the solace is saving a bit of money via the aftermarket.
