Default 991 Cup Car Suspension Overview and GT3 Comparison

We’ve had an opportunity to take a close look at the 991 GT3 Cup Car and examine it's suspension. This overview compares and contrasts the differences found between the GT3 and the cup car. GT3s really are closer to the cup cars than the standard Carreras.

Thought you guys might find this interesting.

Bottom line is the chassis/suspension of the car is quite close to a Cup (like the 997's) but (unfortunately) the engine/tranny is quite unlike the Cups.

I'm already thrilled to hear that the chassis/suspension is close to a 991 Cup car

Great article!

I'm surprised there is no strut bracing on the GT3. Having had bracing on and off a 350Z I know after driving the car without front bracing that it makes a significant difference in structural rigidity to have front and rear bracing. I also prefer slotted rotors rather than cross drilled due to rumors of cracking for drilled rotors. That said, it's nice to hear you comment how the GT3 is mix of street and pure race performance after looking at the suspension. This article and your video and write up on the lift were very much appreciated.

Two questions, are you still having smoking issues and have you finished break in and seated your pistons/heads? I'm bit concerned about this for when I get mine. Also, what's your opinion on break in? I've driven my Z cars like I stole them from day one but, I'm not so sure I want to create an issue with this car. Keep under 4200 for a couple thousand miles or, careful when cold then flat out? Yours is one of the few opinions I'd like on the issue. Thanks.

Can anyone find the part number on that cup Brake Calipar? Talking about BLING! Do the cups use PCCBs or Metal Disc?

I was curious about that too. I found this:

http://www.performancefriction.com/

Page 14 of their parts list has race only parts for the GT3:

http://www.pfcbrakes.com/Repository/...ide_PN_cat.pdf

But, I'd call them if I were serious about swapping brakes.

All in good fun. Hey I'm stuck with one now too! It interesting the suspension has migrated closer to the Cup.

Glad you guys enjoyed that. The brakes are steel/aluminum, no PCCBs on the cup cars.
