GT2 bucket seats available as tequipment for US?
#47
Just want to be sure we're talking about the same seats (GT2 folding carbon buckets)? Anyways, I am only 5'11" and those seats put my head just below the headliner without a helmet in a 997 GT3 and through the headliner with a helmet (can feel contact with the metal roof if I extent my spine all the way). Granted, I have unusually short legs and long torso...
I'm 6' and fit in a 997 GT3 with those seats (1" or 1 1/2" to spare) while wearing a helmet. But a 987 or 981 I hit the roof. even when bottom cushion is removed. Hope these new ones sit lower due to bumps encountered on new to me tracks - HPR turn 2 has one of those in the DE line.

As per the info from Suncoast (in the other thread on the bucket seats) it looks like these seats aren't going to be available from the tequipment catalogue and that they were added to the website in error.
So will they ship from Germany with new orders for '15 (and not be available for retrofit) or not available at all ??

I believe the 918 seat will be the standard seat for the RS so they will be available as Tequipment. Probably 10K for the pair though.

I hope you're right because we've been hearing that the 918 seats won't be available aftermarket. I would consider $10K for the pair a bargain; I was anticipating at least $15k+....

FWIW I was told by my local source that the GT3, and probably RS, buckets are not exactly the same as the 918 seats. Catch the drift?

WTF... I just don't understand WHY the same seats were DOT approved in 997, and NOT in 991?! What's the issue?
Also, if one takes a 997 GT2 bucket seat, couldn't it just be fitted? Is the issue different wiring? Couldn't someone just make a wiring harness and make it work?

So while waiting for a call back from dealer parts dept I called PCNA about the techquipemt seats. After some delay Camile said yes the drivers seat (991 044 801 31) is available to order and ships from Germany. However the passenger seat (991 044 801 32) shows as currently unavailable.
Also, the harness supplied with the clubsport option has a part number of 991.803.017.90 (Schroth part number 44036B-KIT) and attaches directly to the car, by removing some carpet cut-outs, rather than to the seat via the three-point mounts and sub bar. I discovered this difference as I was about to order a harness for the passenger's side from Suncoast and ended up ordering a 991.803.017.90/44036B-KIT from a UK seller on eBay instead.
I'm not sure if the North American or the RoW non-clubsport cars have these carpet cut-outs, or even the captive nuts in the chassis, but it might be worth having a look.
All photos below are of the right-hand side; I expect the equivalent points to exist on the left-hand side as well and I did feel the sub mount cuts-outs when I took the photos. The light-grey you see where the harness disappears in the middle two photos is the foam under the carpet and is where one of the cut-outs came from, the other two are from the sub strap mounts.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Suncoast Parts latest (today) email flyer said "there WILL BE a sport seat available Spring '15 for NA, not sure if it will be a GT2-type seat, or 918-type seat".

I got that email also. It's c/w what I was told and posted above. It really can only be the GT3 seats (not the previous GT2 style) because I was also told they are "991 GT3 specific" and DOT certified. I was also told they will be the standard seat for the upcoming RS. I was told to expect around 10K for the pair, either all leather or leather alcantara.

My parts manager at the dealer. They get a lot of info in parts dept if they are willing to do some research. Not always privy to new models, but the issue of the bucket seats has been on their dept radar since the intro. The Suncoast folks also stay on top of new parts and what is and isn't available. They are a great resource. My guy has the same info problem is that it is true but unofficial and subject to change, so I always add a caveat. I don't want to mislead or just add rumor.
