He goes by me and I tell the wifey, MAN I hope he pulls over the Accord. NOPE! he slows down and I have to go by him and he gets behind me and PULLS me over! So now my heart is beating 200-300 beats a minute (My max is 180) so he is walking up and my wife and I are looking for my wallet! ITS NOT HERE! I LEFT IT AT HOME!! He knocks on the passenger window and we roll it down and he says, "You cant have that up in the windshield". So now He can write me up for that, and then it comes: "may I have your license and registration?" I tell him we forgot the wallet at home and my wife is going to drive I am so SORRY!" I dont whine but I was pretty damn close to whining.
He drops the bomb. "Ah dont worry about it go on I aint gonna write you a ticket. I just want to know when did you pick me up?" I told him" I didnt hear it till he got behind me" "I saw you when it went off" He says "thank you" and lets me go! By the time I got to Bishop my heart had come down to below my physical max and I no longer felt like evacuating my bowels but what a break!
He didnt even make wifey and I change driver. What a nice guy!
The reason I believe I didnt pick him up was because I was getting on the hwy and so was he from the opposite direction and we were blocked by the overpass. But what a break!

SO whats the deal in Cali? where can you put your Detector?
Officially you can't have anything mounted on your windscreen including GPS, phones, and radar detectors. But it is enforced so seldom. Having said that I keep my V1 just above the rear view mirror on the driver side. Keeps it mostly hidden.

I have V1's hard wired in all my cars. The 9500Ci is cool but cost 3K to install in a 911. It adds up in a hurry if you have multiple cars and they have to take your car apart to put it in. I am not wild about someone taking my new car apart.

I have never been able to keep my toys long enough the justify $2000-$3000 on a radar detector.

It cost me $40 for the hard wire and $150 to install it my 9500ix - A lot cheaper

I just use Waze. can't even count the number of times it has alerted me to cops, especially on 280 in the Bay Area.

I install mine near the top of the windshield in line with the driver's headrest, wired into a line from the dome light. It ends up being just to the left of the rear view mirror, at about the same height. The advantage is that a car behind you can't see the detector (the driver's head and headrest block the view), and you can easily flip the visor down over it to block it completely should you get pulled over for something else.

Have both the V1 and the 9500xi. Tested both to decide which goes in my DD. Passport FTW. I used to think I could never do without the arrows but I adjusted just fine to the Passport. Like the voice cues with band.

Valentine 1 for the money is the best, Never have received a ticket with it and like I said when we took it down and put it in my wifes purse it STILL picked up a oncoming CHP!! $400 and if there is a firmware update you just send it in and get it upgraded instead of having to pay $3000 for a new one.
Mike Valentine is a RL member and used to work for Escort/Passport. But got tired of making a new model and having to have the customers buy a new one all over again!! So he started his own company to let the customer by one and keep it for awhile. I bought mine in 2003. Its been up graded twice and still works GREAT.
He pulled me over when I WAVED at him and he looked over at me.
