The engines came brand new and totally complete with everything attached. Only the mufflers were reused. All new fittings, connectors and bolts were supplied. The replacement was done by techs flown in from Germany at the original port of entry and was essentially a plug and play 8 hour job. My service manager said that when the car was returned they put it up on the lift and literally could not tell that anything had been touched except for the fact that a pristine engine was in the engine bay. They said it looked as though it had come fresh from the factory.

Throw in the extended warranty and I have zero concern about the swap. There is nothing magical about a factory installation. Engines are dropped all the time for a multitude of reasons.

But the car buying experience including ED is a once in a lifetime event. You are buying a car you pretty much hand picked and built. However, not sure about ED in the dead of winter. Then another six weeks to get again after the ED.

If you are indifferent than get driving! Check though. Supposedly, my Nov delivery doesn't lock till next week. It may have changed but this is what my sales guy told me a while back. This should mean that your Dec build is still open...maybe?

I had a 2014 allocation and walked. It is coming in next month. My 2015 will be in 4 weeks later. Why pay full price for a 1 year old car. Notice most of the guys saying get the '14 already have a '14.

Identical cars yes, but the 14's got compensation, free loaner, and your 14 will have a warranty for another year longer than your 15.

So in reality you are paying less than full price for a 1 year older car with a longer warranty.

And that surprises you?

Seriously, I think many of the replies about taking the '14 were in regard to the engine swap being a huge valuation issue which was the concern of the OP. Anyway, my thoughts:

Taking delivery of a 2014 or 2015 at the same time with the same warranty; no brainer take the 2015.

Taking delivery of a 2014 that has a one year longer warranty, is a little less expensive, and that you get to drive 4 months earlier which, again, is what the OP was referring to....well, I think you at least might want to consider it.

If you wait for the MY2015, you might get hit by a bus in November, and die before you take delivery in December.

Just something to think about ...

Bingo. Not a clear cut answer given these facts but knowing what I know now, if it meant 4 months of great driving I'd likely opt for the 14. The 14 will provide no more nor no less of a driving experience, but simply more of them. And cheaper. And under factory warranty longer. Tough decision.

But my 14 is perfect.

He won't get compensation, a loaner, and how many of us keep a car longer than 4 years anyway.

10k on a 150k car that is a year old when you get it and has a story is peanuts.

Excatly, in effect I am paying more than everyone else for a 14, since I won't get the compensation. But I do get the extra yr of warranty.

Warranty makes a huge different during resale. At least when I look at used car, factory warranty makes a huge different.

Don't know if anyone else has suggested it - you could always get both.

Pick up a '14 to drive now and stick it out for Buckets with potential PTS on a '15...sell/trade the '14 when it arrives.

I like buying new and keeping a car for 18 months is a long time for me, so don't value the warranty. I also just trade in for the sales tax credit and drive in/drive out convenience...

Exactly.. For us changing cars is always an expensive proposition::: every time you pay 10% of the cars value in taxes just for the privilege of changing. Insane

I walked on a 14. So happy I did actually. Might pick up a 15 GT3 or RS or AMG GT-S or 12c. Just letting the dust settle the more people track the 14's the more confident I become in this non-motorsport derived platform-at least for the street and occasional tracking.
