0-40? or 15-50W?
 

I dont want to start a 350 page thread but I have a quick ? and doing 0-40wt in the search engine usually takes it past red line.
Do you all use 0-40wt? In the olden days BO (before Obama) we used here in the Mojave desert a Mobil product called gold cap 15-50 oil. Well Mobil thought we knew too much and completely threw a wrench into everyones pie here and changed formulas and I dont have a clue if the 15-50 is any good. We dont get cold temps here, and even if it does get cold I wouldnt be driving me Porsche. So we compensated by using 15-50 in EVERYTHING (whats in YOUR wallet) our lawn mowers, racing motorcycles, jetskis and Porsches. Its not cold so the 15 and it DOES get hot up to 120 in Aug so the 50W.
Do any of you guys that do track days in the desert like Willow or Button willow or Pahrump or Vegas? or tracks like that or is everyone using 0-40?
IS the 15-50 any good anymore? It appeared for awhile the 15-50 was like for high milage older cars.

On the 0-40 do you use the Mobil 1 European formula that meets Porsche A40?

My sales guy attached a sticky note on the oil change page of my manual indicating to use 0-40.

0/40 too.

0/40 is what I use with no issues in Texas summer. Interested to know Arth's input as he drives on track in 500 degree heat.

Don't use any oil weight outside what is recommend by Porsche...this is due to the hydraulics/variocam type of stuff in these engines...plus the oil valley with in the engine.

I use Motul 5w/40. A40 Porsche approved

Mobil 1 5w-50. Tough to source locally. Great for track. Porsche-approved.

Mobil 1 15w-50 is for turbo diesels - whatever that means.

Another vote for Mobil 5W50. I buy from Petroliant, a Mobil distributor.

Better shear protection than Mobil 0W40. Slightly more zinc and phosphorus at the end of the change interval.

FWIW, Mobil 5W-50 is available on Amazon. I don't know how the pricing compares....

Funny, that is where I get mine - we always get the 6 pack and all good for our 3 Porsches in case we need it.

It's nice having the stuff delivered right to my door, especially living out of town, but that's a good price.

Thanks guys 5-50 it is. or 0-40. I have NO idea why Mobil switched formulas. Everybody out here used 15-50 gold Mobil in everything. Baja Racing trucks Racing desert bikes, racing motocross bikes, race cars and then Poof everything we knew went ti $hit.

Damn, no Petroliant in my area... :( BTW, Amazon and NAPA occasionally have sales on Mobil oil and you can order 5w-50 then for good savings. :thumbup:
