Default Disable Daytime Running Lights

Has anyone figured out how to disable the daytime lights on their 991 GT3?

On my 997 GTS the daytime running lights can be disabled via a vehicle setting on the Multi-Function display. This setting option is not available on the Multi-Function display on either my 991 GT3 or my wife's new Macan.

I feel that driving with lights on during a perfectly bright day is idiotic, and I feel like I'm advertising my stupidity if I can't turn the lights off. To me it is just as stupid as it is to not turn off the flash function on cameras when taking photos of a baseball game during broad daylight.

I will have the GT3 on the track at Watkins Glen this weekend and don't want to be the only dork driving on the track with lights on. Can someone please save me from this embarrassment?

If this is not something that an owner can do can a knowledgeable person set a code in the ECU to disable the daytime running lights?

IIRC you simply turn the rotary light **** in the car all the way to the right no? Sorry my car lives 1800km away from where I do so cant check for certain but it is possible to turn them off Im pretty sure (cant speak for LED ones as I have PDLS halogens).

Unfortunately no, per the US Owner's Manual p58: "If the light switch is set to position OFF (light off), the daytime driving lights come on automatically when the ignition is switched on."

Is there a fuse to pull the drl? U probably get a dash warning if fuse is removed. You can always remove the bulb if needed too but another dash warning too. Mike

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pull the fuse so that I won't be driving the Glen with lights on. Then again, I'll be considered a dork anyway because I'll be driving a GT3 with PDK, right?

I'd say leave them on, it gets people on track out of your way faster as they recognize the car coming, over and over...

Do the rear brake lites blink when braking like the 7.2 gt3's? First time seeing on track thought driver had issue with car and used the emergency blinker. Mike

Well hopefully you have enuf sessions to get a delta on running the PDK on auto vs manual. Pretty curious what laptime differences it would be. Have fun!!! Mike

Well, it turns out that pulling a fuse is not a workable solution for disabling the daytime running lights. Yes, there are two fuses for the daytime running lights (left and right) but the problem is that those same fuses also handle several other things like brake lights and tail lights. Bummer.

I guess that I'll have to find someone who knows how to set the ECU code to disable the daytime running lights.

Check with your dealer. Through their plug-in laptop, there are so many functions that they can enable/disable and DRL may just be one of them.

Would be interesting to have a thread that lists what the dealer can unlock in terms of features. I'm sure seat programming, mirror tilt down when reversing, etc. must be just a matter of a few keystrokes.
