Default Breaking In (What's Everyone's Opinion)

Picked up my car yesterday, 3000 km with no full throttle and have to stay under 4,200 rpm it's hard, very impressed so far, can't wait to wind it out or do I really need to wait ?

Default SUmmary of the whole thread

For Americans under 4500 RPMs for 2000 miles For everyone else:
"Careful when cold Flat out when Warm"
I couldnt wait past 600 miles then sport plus yada yada. How long do Porsche race engines break in?
There is a video of what Porsche does to your engine when the first start it and it gets the hell revved out of it.
Babying it can actually hurt it. Modern engines need the ring matched to the cylinder wall soon. Just follow what the Porsche tech said:
"Careful when cold Flat out when Warm"

The reason the US gets the 2000 mile break in???? All the nice over litigious lawers we have and how you are brought up from day one "SUE 'EM!!!"
Nobody is responsible for their own actions.

Here's an excerpt from the UK GT3 owners manual. I don't see any mention of "Flat out when warm".

Interesting my buddy took delivery of a RS4.0 a few year back on the track, and the pro was doing hit laps with him. Said the engine was bullet proof and no worries!

This debate will never end. Every one must break in the car to where they personally can have a piece on mind. In the end - every way will be fine.- But - I do not believe you should gun it from mile 1. I think you need at least 500 miles before you let her loose but- that is my piece of mind

I'm going to follow the recommendations listed for UK cars for 500 miles. After that I won't be able to control myself.

It's like finally getting a date with a victoria's secret model, when she's in a horny mood, and yet keeping all your clothes on........

Can I ask why the oil change? And how do you do it?

Damn it says avoid high engine speeds until 3,000 kms. That's just extended my run in! High would certainly mean 9k. Is 7k ok?!

speaking of warming up. Generally this refers to watching your oil temp until you start going higher with the revs.

Are there any precautions or recommendations about letting the engine idle for a few minutes before taking the car out. Is this good or bad thing with regard to an engine that is not yet broken in?

^Very good thing. When I start up my previous cars and even the loaner I have now; letting it idle and warm up for five minutes is a good thing. I even heard do not cold start it and rev it freely right away but let it just idle because it has some thing to do with being fuel injected- who ever told me this could of been full of it but I think it was the Master Mechanic at the Audi dealership who did the work on my R8 V10.
