Default Rattling noise engine/transmission

There is a loud rattling noise at idle or driving slowly through a parking lot etc. in my car. Delivery yesterday 46 miles on the clock. The dealer says this is normal for a GT3. (How would they know? This is the only GT3 they have had.) Is any one else having this? It sounds a like my 997 gt3 engine at idle but louder.

I wish I could remember where I read about it, but unlike Carreras with regular PDK which use a dual mass flywheel, I believe that the GT3 and PDK-S use a lightened flywheel which results in gear rattle. My gearbox also rattles at idle and as your dealer says, it's normal.

Can confirm - it is normal. Mine is also doing it - I sort of like it actually.

I think it's called a single disk flywheel, which gives it less inertia. It was present on the previous generation RS, which is why the sound different..: but I didn't realize the 997 gt3 also had it.

Correct.

997 .1 and .2 gt3s have dual mass FW. All RSs have single mass.

My car does the same thing and has 900 miles on it. I am pretty sure its the tranny because as soon as I take off and there is a load on the transmission it goes away. It sounds like a manual car with a really bad throw out bearing.

Default It's getting worse

This transmission noise is really getting much louder. In addition there seems to be play in the transmission with loud clanking noises at low speed and a grinding sound on accelerating from 2500 in 7th. One again the dealer says this is normal for a track car. No noises under full acceleration. The car is undrivable in automatic at low speeds too, jerking into 2nd the clanking and grinding. Thoughts?

Normal for PDK-S. If you wanted a silky smooth and quiet automatic like dual clutch manual, you will need to switch to a Carrera or Turbo, with normal PDK. Look around and search and you will find it as normal.

Hmmm.

Kinda sounds like the PDK-S in a 991 GT3.

Love it.

This. The PDK-S gearbox is definitely noisy but it's impossible to tell from here if the OP is truly experiencing something out of the ordinary.

Jonsack, I think I know what you are experiencing. This occurs in extreme NY traffic when you are feathering a constant 2 mph with stop and go on manual mode at the wrong rpm. (like a manual)

The solution is not to be gentle on the gas and step on it. Not a joke, I'm serious.

Maybe this is why our friend Manifold didn't enjoy the GT3 in his road test.

Gosh I need to get another drive soon, I don't remember any noises like described when I drove friends last?

I have concerns about how well auto mode works with manual tranny day to day? What's everyone's thoughts on usability in auto mode who owns one...mike and everyone I would love feedback?
