Default What's your beater car, if any?

I was going to park GT3 at the local commuter train (BART) parking lot 5 minutes from my house when going to work, but several people suggsted it's not safe. I used to park my M3 for over 6 months and got only one ding, but I've heard about instances of vandalism, etc. Also, short drives are not ideal for the engine, and occasional bird poo seems to be not so good for paint...

So I'm considering getting a beater car which will have a sole purpose of getting me to BART and back. I thought about a motorcycle, but with the way people drive here, I'd rather not. So what would be a good option? Something that would be very small and cheap, but not totally soul-less. I thought about Miata or Mini Cooper S 8+ years old. Any other options to consider? An early hot hatch? Some other tempting options are an older BMW or something else fun, as long as it does not break too often.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Laredo, 2006. Love it. Comfy, solid, dependable. Nobody ever messes with it. Park it at airports for weeks at a time, 100% worry free.

unfortunately, it's not an option because of the elevation. it's over an hour of climbing, and completely impossible with any moisture on the road.

Chevy Volt. Carpool lane access, charge at home and at work. Pays for itself. 2 years, 40k miles and $65 in total maintenance expenses.
