2015 Cayman GT4
Hi guys, this is the latest update I have read & it has been reported that the forthcoming Cayman based GT4 will indeed have a 3.8L flat 6 with twin turbo giving out 450hp. I suspect this is the de tuned version of the 991 TT engine. 450hp is still short on the GT3's 475hp but torque wise it has to be better as it is turbocharged. Yes is steeping into the 911 GT's territory but I suspect Porsche will move the 911 GT models upward by as unconfirmed report using a turbocharged flat 6 on the forthcoming GT3 RS. So the 991 GT3 could be the last NA GT3. Cheers mate & all of you have a nice week end!

Old news, already been discussed on another thread called "OT: cayman gt4".. Please don't muck up the forum like this, takes a second to do a scan of current threads and contribute to the conversation.

450hp cayman, nobody would buy a 911.
i love the back seat in 911 but the engine and size of the cayman is better, just being honest. |
No one? I see the 911 as a different category of car when compared to 4-5 years ago. Its turning into a large grand touring type car that will appeal to the non-track crowd. They can get away with increasing the performance level on the Cayman as long as its costs more than the comparable 911.

^ Agree. Porsche has learned since the Cayman introduction back in 2005/06 that it did not take away from 911 sales. But I wonder how true the Cayman GT4 car really is?? I know where there is smoke there is usually fire but a 450 turbo charged Cayman would be very interesting. Porsche has always been protective of their flag ship 911 so this would certainly be a departure for them which they conservatively never do. I would have to believe this would not be a mass produced model but a two-year campaign with similar volume numbers to the GT3. If it does not have a manual no sense in trading my GT3 but if it has a manual count me in.

As mentioned by CAlexio, there is a pretty extensive Cayman GT4 thread here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/...ayman-gt4.html Consensus seems to be the rumor of a 3.8L motor with turbos is a journo fantasy... Admittedly it would be awesome, but you can see from the discussion in the other thread that there are several reasons it's unlikely. -nh4. |

Guys, this Cayman GT4 is going to be a beast! I just hope they will keep it N/A... |
all the talk about the GT4 got me thinking... what about a Cayman R? Wouldnt that have to come before a gt4?
|
You lost me at turbocharged....
|
yup, a detuned turbo from the 991TT right?

Doesn't make sense using detuned turbos just to make 450BHP. The extra piping, complecation and cost; Porsche could do 450BHP sans turbos. And that number, 450 just seems too high on an output for this car. And with a PDK and all the nannies such a car would be treading in 911 territory all day.
That is also anagolous to the Audi TT RS. Five Cylinders, Turbo and originally penned for the European market with Porsche's PDK. 0 to 60 times of 3.9 seconds; I wish I could find the article where they stated those numbers but at $65K American they nixed that idea. Europe never got the PDK with their version correct me if I'm wrong!? |
