Lol the 918 is much, much heavier and has way less aero. It is going to finish in last place in every performance category, except maybe 0-60, because of that. If it wins something it will be a subjective measure like looks or handling, but I think at least on the latter the Macca should have it beat as well.

You can slo get the paper subscription.. It's the only magazine I receive on paper and IMO it's totally worth it. In case you've forgotten, jta actually satisfying to turn large beautiful glossy pages. I've been collecting EVO since almost the first one...!will continue until they stop printing jt

I agree the 918 isn't quite as pretty as the other two. For 1/4 million $$ more for the P1 and almost double for La Ferrari one should get something....

I know you're down on the 918, Dan. It is interesting though that McLaren hyped the P1 big time as a sub 7:00 Ring car and AFAIK has yet to reveal a documented time. Some journalist wrote recently that they must have lost the timing slips! The 918, BTW, did a documented 6:57. I suspect the 918 may surprise in head to head tests.
The lack of a posted Ring time was explained by McLaren, perhaps not convincingly though.
In any case, the reviews by Sutcliffe and Harris clearly state that the both the McLaren and the Ferrari are in another league than the 918. Or was it another universe? And that makes intuitive sense, as well. Comparative lap times will be along soon enough.

No, I'm not a fan. And that is not an indictment of Porsche's engineering prowess or the car - the 918 is an incredible achievement, I suppose - it's just the misguided nature of the concept. Sigh, I just wanted an RS Spyder for the road.

This much I know, if I was going to spend over a million dollars on a car I would want it to be from an established car company which I do not feel McLaren is as of yet.

Dan, if you haven't seen Ring times from Ferrari or McLaren I doubt we will see times from them any time soon. Also, I am not sure either Harris or Sutcliffe claimed that the P1 and LF are better than the 918. They drove the 918 when it was in its development stage. There has been substantially improvement of the 918 delivered car.

I would find a link for you on the YouTube videos, but I can't do it from this computer. I think these guys have now had multiple drives in these cars, including in the finished version of the 918 - certainly at the official launch and perhaps afterwards as well.
Here is a direct quote from Sutcliffe:
"The P1 is faster than the 918. Everywhere. On paper it looks close enough for there not to be much difference in the real world. But in that real world the McLaren feels of-another-solar-system quicker the Porsche. It feels as fast as anything I've ever driven to be honest, including Honda's 2007 F1 car, whereas the 918 feels merely very fast indeed."
He went on at length about how much faster in the video. And then he did so again with respect to the Ferrari when he test drove that. So, it's very clearly on the record that the 918 is much slower than both of these cars and, again, that is not at all surprising given the weight of the beast.
At this stage, we're just waiting for the lap times to see how much slower the 918 is. And, I'm not pleased about it, but I don't want to go on a rant.

^^Sutcliffe does have a tendency to get carried away. Of another solar system? Really?
FWIW, Richard Hammond thinks the 918 will prove faster than the P1 and got Clarkson to say he would change his name to Shirley if it is. Should be a fun TG.....
