Spot on my RS was purchased in CONNECTICUT, and they collected all the GA taxes and completed the registration working with GA. I had no issues, and they applied the trade in GT3 for full tax credit of 144k so I only paid the tax difference on the balance. Zero issues.

Well I have had it happen where the out of state dealer collected the correct sales tax for my location only to find out that the DMV decided the dealer calculated it incorrectly and wanted to charge more. Had to pull up the laws and shown them that they were incorrect. I hate dealing with government employees that think they are doing you a favor (customer is king doesn't seem to apply) and are not ever to be questioned on their errors.

I'm assuming a good red state like GA is much easier than dealing with compared to Mass. it's absolutely brutal up here....brutal

Most states are going to be that the taxes are paid when and where the car is registered, which is why you may not pay sales tax where you purchase the car if you live in a different state. It should be much rarer that you pay where you purchased the car and pay the differential to where you register. The state you register the car will not like that situation either as they will feel they are not getting paid their full amount owed.

Unfortunately different states, different rules. The answer to a sales tax question is typically "it depends".

The NY Dealer who you are purchasing the car from, gives you all the information you need (and of course the title) to go to Motor Vehicle in your state and you PAY THE TAX THERE. NY does not collect Tax for another state

One new Porsche I refused was when the local TX dealer insisted on charging me sales tax. Told them to keep it.

Move to Oregon -- no sales tax.

Actually, sales tax is usually collected and remitted to the state of residency. They should also handle the registration but regardless, the handling of it s/be tax neutral.
