Porsche 991 Carrera S MT built as a GT3 substitute
Hi,
Anyone remember which company it was that built the 991 Carrera S MT with a Powerkit and other updates to make it "the real GT3 substitute".
I bought an Carrera S with the Powerkit and PDK as I couldnīt get the GT3 and after a month of driving it, Iīm really fed up with the PDK. Itīs terrible, the clutch slides and downshifts in all the wrong places. The car is great otherwise but considering of trading the current to a similar MT and doing the upgrades that the company did.
So, would be really thankful if anyone could send me in the right direction

I have a 991s MT, but I have to say that this is the first time I have ever heard someone say anything bad about the PDK. I have the DCT in my M5 and I think it's great. Everyone who has had the DCT and PDK say the PDK is much better.

No matter what some company does to it, it won't be a "GT3 substitute", just a nice, tricked out 911S. It's pricy to engineer a ready-made race car.
Heck, based on you post, I'd just buy a gently used 997 GT3. You'll get a great manual Porsche which costs less than a new 991 GT3, and makes practically the same hp, as your new 991 with power kit "GT3 substitute". And it won't be a substitute, it will be an actual GT3.

I just don't get why people wouldn't just buy a 997.2 GT3?
Are they really hard to come by? I thought you could find one if you looked hard, and it would cost closer to 100K, not 189K, and either car would have basically the same horsepower.

Humm...I find PDK shifts at all the correct spots after a few hot laps no problem.
However I priced up a Carrera S with power kit, big brake PCCB, sport suspension and aero kit and it was right the same price as a GT3...but you won't have to deal with stupid center locks and who knows what rear steer will end up like....so....hummm.

Thanks, it was the Pfafftuning car that I was looking for. Thought that they had done something with the engine but the updates was pretty standard and more aimed at making the car more trackable.
I just bought a 997 Carrera 2S with Cup parts that I will use on the Ring and the 991 is my DD. So there is no need in having the track parts on the 991, I only want it to feel like a sports car and therefore having the feeling of being involved when driving it.
I had a 997 GT3 which i sold as it was to loud and hard to drive as a DD. As we have snow for 4-5 months of the year, a car without any rust protection isn't suitable for DD use where ai live.
I like the 991 Carrera S a car, but the PDK box takes away the involvment of driving. Thats why I think a manual Carrera would possibly suit me better.
And maybe if you would beef it up with an ECU upgrade and a proper sports exhaust it could be "hard" enough to make it feel like a sports car but still having the comfort that you need from a daily driver.

991 carrera s just has PDK only? If they have a mt version wouldn't it best to just sell PDK car and buy an mt one and minus the swap this and that which sounds prohibitively to expensive. Mike

I know I am the odd guy but I like to drive cars that "feels right". And if the "feel right" factor needs some hassle and modifying, I think of it as part of the hobby

I just float around on this forum (I have a Z06 not a 911) - but I think you mean BGB Motorsports - They can take your standard off-the-shelf 911 and convert it into a full on bells-and-whistles GT3 spec build - http://www.teambgb.com/main.asp

Yes it is slower, but for me, I'm out there having fun and trying to improve myself - there's something about rowing through gears that makes me feel much more connected to my car.
If I ever switched to Porsche, I'd actually pick a 911s over a GT3 and then send it over to BGB for some serious track mods. I'd only buy a GT3 if they started selling one with a manual tranny.

Already had a 997 GT3 and sadly it didn't work as a DD.
Just to clear, I'm not buying the Pfaff car but was interested what they had done.
I had a 991 GT3 ordered and canceled the order because of the approx. 6 month delay in delivery. The compensation that was offered were the 1 year extended warranty. Not enough in my opinion.
I have a separate Porsche as a track car (bought it since i canceled the GT3) and compete in the VLN series on the Nordschleife with a BMW M235 Racing. The 991 is my DD and the sole purpose of this one is to be a car that I enjoy driving all year around on the road and have a decent resell value in a year or so when I'll change it.
